Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have been passionate about horses for as long as I can remember, and this love has led me to build a career around them. I am the owner of a successful riding school where I teach both young children and adults how to ride. Through my school, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide range of riders, from beginners to more experienced individuals, helping them develop their skills, confidence, and love for horses.
In addition to my teaching, I own two horses of my own, which has given me a deep understanding of horse care, grooming, and daily management. I am a skilled rider myself and have the distinction of being nationally ranked in competitive riding, which has further honed my riding skills and taught me how to work effectively with horses at a high level.
With years of hands-on experience in both teaching and managing horses, I have developed a strong foundation in training, grooming, and providing excellent care for horses. I am always eager to expand my knowledge and improve my skills, and I believe I can bring both my passion and expertise to your team.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
Working Alone: I am able to provide assistance with intricate work that encompasses study and attention. Whether you’re creating detailed plans or providing solutions, I am great at working individually in order to give considered and accurate answers.
Working with Young Horses: I could tell you about how to handle them correctly, how to train them, and give advice on how to safely deal with young horses. If you‘re looking for specific exercises or ways to introduce young horses to new situations, I‘m here!
Non-Equine Skills: Non-equine skills-wise, I am proficient at offering help in many different areas, from technology to writing, problem-solving, and even creative pursuits.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
Possibly the most pleasing aspect of working with horses is the good bond which can be developed between handler and horse. Having a trust and bond with each horse is highly rewarding and it builds respect and understanding on both sides. Horses are highly intuitive and intelligent animals, and each interaction with them is an opportunity to learn something new. Whether it‘s a deeper understanding of their behavior, refining my riding techniques, or learning efficient ways of training, there is always something to learn. Physical and mental challenges are part of equine work. From acquiring riding techniques to solving problems when training, I enjoy the dynamic nature of horse work and the feeling of achievement that comes with breaking through. Witnessing progress and improvement in a horse, be it in training, health, or behavior, fills me with great delight. Achieving milestones, no matter how minute, assures me of the constructive impact I can have on their lives. Horses allow me to spend time outdoors and connect with nature. The tranquility of working in a barn or riding in open spaces enhances my overall well-being and provides a refreshing escape from everyday stress. Caring for horses—fulfilling their needs for health, grooming, and training—conveys to me a profound sense of purpose. Having the privilege of being able to provide for their well-being an honor as well as a privilege. Horses possess a unique ability of providing companionship and emotional support. They have a close relationship with me when I am working with them, and it is generally reassuring and thrilling.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
The horse industry is constantly evolving, and I’m focusing on growing in key areas:
-
Advanced Training Techniques: I aim to learn more advanced methods and disciplines to improve my handling and training skills.
-
Business Acumen: To advance in the industry, I want to enhance my knowledge of marketing, finance, and operations for better career prospects.
-
First Aid & Emergency Response: I seek higher certification in equine emergency care to better support horses and reassure employers and clients.
-
Natural Horsemanship: I’m interested in developing my skills with natural horsemanship techniques to strengthen my bond with horses.
-
Networking & Relationships: I plan to attend more events, clinics, and workshops to connect with industry professionals and learn from them.
-
Soft Skills: I will focus on developing emotional intelligence, leadership, and conflict resolution skills for better team and client relationships.
-
Riding & Conditioning: I aim to further develop my riding skills in specific disciplines and improve my physical conditioning to meet the demands of horse work.
-
Sustainability: I want to learn about eco-friendly practices in horse care and stable management to contribute to the environment.
By focusing on these areas, I’ll become a more well-rounded professional, benefiting both myself and my future employers and horses.
