Experience with Horses
My recent employment within the equine industry was at Harry Fry racing yard. I was a groom, so included general yard duties such as mucking out, sweeping, putting horses on/off the walker, turning out/bringing in, loading horses onto trailers, etc. However, due to the naturally quick pace and exclusivity of racing yards, all of these activities had to be carried out as quickly as possible at beyond par standard.
I have been riding for over 12 years and have volunteered and worked at multiple riding stables and helping to bring some of the greener horses on.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
My main skill is to communicate clearly and remain calm under pressure while working alone or with others. Due to the nature of race horses, they are prone to be highly strung so i am experienced in handling/riding strong horses.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I enjoy seeing the excellence of the well-being of the horses, and i generally enjoy being in their presence. Even if i am not riding i still manage to see their progress/success as rewarding.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would like to improve on my dressage, i know the basics but i would like to delve deeper into the details/become more advanced in that particular discipline.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
My general love for the animals weighs more than any of the money I recieve for doing so. I dedicated 9 years of my life to volunteering to support local yards/riding stables alongside my studies.
