Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have worked on a yard professional stud, livery and riding school yard since I was 14, as well as grooming for clients at both dressage and showjumping competitions. I have continued to work at a yard whilst completing my GCSEs and A-Levels, as well as ride friends and family’s horses and have also had the experience to loan my own. At my part time job i carry out taks such as mucking out, contiuing to keep the yard tidy, turing out, lunging, lose schooling, schooling and hacking horses, handing young stock and stalions, tacking up horses for leasons as well as helping the riders on, cleaning tack, feeding horses in the stables as well as in the feilds, carring out regular checks as well a giving out medication, changing rugs, bandaging horses. As well as this when helping clients at competition i will pack the lorry, groom the horses, ensure all tack and any other esentailas are packed as well enure they are fit for use, tack up the horses at the competition, hand walk/ graze them, assist the horse and rider with getting on, adjusting the height of warm up jumps and assist at any points in the competition.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I am particularly good at remaining calm in higher stress situations as well as having good communication skills with staff members to ensure that the horses are well cared for in the best way possible. Whilst I enjoy working with others, I am also very good at working independently with no guidance or extra help, which I often find allows for a less stressful working environment. Alongside this, I am very self-motivated due to my love for horses and the sport, which enables me to give the utmost effort into my work even if it’s something I am unsure about.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

My favourite part about working with horses is seeing the constant improvements they make in their career, such as when they step up the levels competing or overcoming challenges at home, the process is one of my favourite aspects. As well as this, I enjoy the constant speed that yards work at, as well as the busy times that ensure you never get bored!

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would love to work on my riding and particularly my showjumping after spending the past few years focusing on my flat work and dressage. I would also love for this to be an aspect in my future jobs.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

Employers should consider me over others due to my enthusiastic attitude to work and learning, as well as the light harted jocks a hummer i can bring to a team. I am also dedicated to my work and continue to work hard in higher stress situations as well as unusually difficult circumstances.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

In my next job, I want to travel more with horses, as well as groom at large/ international competitions. I also want to continue to work as part of a team and continue my education with horses.

• Do you need accommodation?

I will need accommodation provided or nearby.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

I will not need any special requirements for animals.

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

I am currently finishing my A-levels, but I will not have any commitments when I am looking to start a full-time career.

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

I do not have any holidays booked for after I wish to start my full-time job, but would want to take holiday around the Christmas period if my job allows it.
