Experience with Horses

I have worked with horses since i have been out of school (July 2022), in this time i have worked for my current employer and have done all yard duties. This includes day to day care such as turn in/out, mucking out, hay, waters, grooming, bathing, tacking and un-tacking, riding and lunging, bandaging and rugging.. I have also done show prep, such as, bathing, plaiting, clipping (my own horses), bandaging, tacking/un-tacking, doing warm up fences and maybe most importantly filming showjumping rounds! Also attending stay away and day shows (British Showjumping) Although i usually only work with 1 – 2 (sometimes 3) horses at a time i enjoy the final picture of a well groomed competition horse and it makes me proud!

I have also worked as a groom at a small racing yard (around 25 horses) doing day to day duties such as, mucking out, waters, on and off walker, hay, bandaging, rugging.

Key Skills

As i am used to being apart of a small team (my boss and I and a few part time workers) i am used to and can work alone, however i can step up and be a part of a team and help others out while doing my own tasks. I have an eye for detail and love everything to be perfect!

I have worked with young horses (foals included), handled stallions, i have ridden young and green horses and also sharp, competition horses. I am a quiet, positive rider and would love more experience with high level competition horses.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I really enjoy show grooming and would love the opportunity to be able to better myself and gain more experience in this role at a high level. Also i would love to further my riding with top trainers!

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would really love to improve my clipping and turnout for certain disciplines, i am used to turning out for amateur show jumping (up to 120/foxhunter). I love all the horses i look after to look beautiful and really pride myself in this.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I know if i find an employer that is willing to teach me and allow me to gain experience then i will be a loyal, reliable and happy employee. I have been with my current employer for around 3/4 years now and this is because she is amazing at allowing me to experience new areas of grooming and helps me learn any way i can, however i would like experience at higher levels now and to really enhance my knowledge.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I would like to be able to not be stuck doing every day chores. I am aware this is part of the job and i am happy doing them, however i would like the chance to ride and show groom and to learn how to better myself as a groom! I want someone to really teach me the ropes of high level competition grooming.

• Do you need accommodation?

I would preferably like to stay local to where i live however if this is not possible then yes.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

I have my own horse, he is a 7 year old ex racehorse. Having the chance to be able to exercise him during the day would be amazing as this is his current routine. He is easy and the yard favourite where i am currently!

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

I am currently working full time as a Junior Admin & Finance Assistant so will need to give 1 months notice.

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

28-30 Nov, 4-8 Dec, 20 Dec, 23-27 Dec
