Experience with Horses

I previously worked at a riding school in Moss, Doncaster. Whilst working there my key jobs were to muck out 4-5 stables in a morning, lead young children in a morning hour lesson and two afternoon hour lessons. After this I would ride in a leaders only lesson. Before working I used to attend this riding school as a young rider. Here I rode in many group lessons and group hacks. In that time I had a range of instructors that taught me to school young and green horses, jump and lunge. I have also led on a handful of hacks and know how to keep a ride safe whilst out on the road. I have also been taught how to clean tack to a high standard and how to groom and plait to a high showing standard. In addition to this I have loaded horses onto a large lorry and unloaded them at a field for grazing. As well as this I had a loan on a horse at the age of 15. During my loan period, I had to make sure he was fed and watered daily and ridden daily as he had become quite unfit and overweight. I also hacked my loan horse and schooled my loan horse. I have been out of the equine sector of work due to having children, however it is my passion and I would love it if I could re start my career on this path again.

 

 

Key Skills

Grooming, mucking out to a high standard, lunging, schooling and hacking, cleaning tack. I work well in a group but can be trusted to work alone and get a job done efficiently.

 

 

Strengths and Weaknesses

• I love working with horses because they’re very peaceful animals and they give a person the ability to connect on a very deep and emotional level. They’re also very intelligent and I love the way they move and how they give you the most amazing and freeing feeling that nothing else compares to.

 

• I would love the chance to improve on my clipping skills and show prep as I haven’t had much experience with this. I have only observed.

 

• Employers should give me the chance above everyone else because I feel that I have a brilliant understanding of horses. In the past I have been praised by my instructors for riding through and understanding different horses and adjusting myself to suit what the horse needs in that moment. For example if a horse is spooking at something that looks scary on the ground and they’re aren’t responding to being pushed through it, then the safer option for everyone is to get off and show them it’s okay and to remain calm.

 

Requirements

• I would like to gain more experience in the teaching side of riding as that is where my passion truly lies. I would also like to gain more experience of what it takes to become a freelance rider and instructor and to hopefully one day run my own business.
