Experience with Horses

I have owned and rode horses most of my life and in so have worked on various stables. My duties consisted of riding, mucking out to a high standard, competition groom, assisting lessons, assisting in the handling of clients, and general yard duties. Previously, I was enrolled in equestrian college doing level 2 horse management where I gained valuable hands on skills in plaiting, clipping, stable management and riding. I have recently been exercising showjumpers and eventers in my spare time to maintain my fitness and broadening my skills in my own time. Having competed previously in showing (traditional cobs), showjumping and dressage; I possess experience both in the ring and preparing horse and rider to be presented to a high turnout standard. I have broken and produced horses previously and feel a great joy in knowing I can help horses develop to their career. Having great equestrian role models teaching me in my various jobs in the past have shaped me to become a well rounded equestrian, learning from hands on experience in otherwise untaught trades.

Key Skills

I work well both alone or in a team. I am able to delegate and assist others to create the best work team, guiding those and also listening to others when I could use improvement. Equally, I am happy to work on my own tackling all tasks once I know the lay of the land. I am self motivated and don’t struggle with getting all tasks done and using my initiative to complete other duties without having to be directed. I find myself to be a confident rider and am able to turn my hand to most things and learn, this makes me a highly adaptable and shape shifting person for something to make their own.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I have been around horses most of my life and feel at peace and happy when I’m around them, being able to communicate with them without even having to speak holds something close to my heart. I’m an enjoyable person to be around, both horse and person due to finding great joy in my work which adds to the environment of my work space.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would like to gain qualifications to increase my level and become a well rounded sufficient groom/rider. I would also like to improve my riding and excel in competing gaining valuable skills from an experienced individual. I would like to improve on my general knowledge and training techniques.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

With my military background I am disciplined and perform all my duties to a high standard. I take great personal pride in my work and am known to be a reliable person. I am open to learn and broaden my skillset in any way. I am reliable and have good time management skills therefore am able to complete tasks in allocated times and meet deadlines. Being self motivated and rewarded by completing my work makes me satisfied by my job and require no chasing to do what is asked of me.
