Experience with Horses

I have worked as a stable hand at 2 different stables for 8 years. These stables were foxhounds riding school in Orsett, I worked there for 5.5 years. And Bons farm in Stapleford Abbots for 1.5 years. I would work here every Saturday and sometimes sundays, and sometimes during the week if they needed me to. During this work, I would muck/skip out stables, make sure the yard looked presentable and clean, feeding/grooming horses, leading/handling horses (all ages and sizes), checking for lameness/health checks and much more. I would have to do 8-10 hour shifts. These days were hard work, but I really enjoyed every day of work and I would never leave a job undone or not done to the highest standard. I was resilient and I was able to power through and get all of my work done to the highest standard every day. I also have experience from working on farms, as I needed this experience for college. I completed approximately 200+ hours of work experience on a farm in my time at college. This includes working with all farm animals such as horses, donkeys, pigs, goats etc.

Key Skills

I have multiple skills when it comes to working with horses. I have been riding for 11 years, and I specify in showjumping. Ive ridden young horses from the age of 4, and I have also trained and ridden spicy/green horses. I have great Handling skills with horses of all ages and sizes. I need a bit more experience on clipping, but everything else I am confident with. my muck out skills are great, i’m able to do a thorough and in-depth job of mucking/skipping out in very short time. I have a great skill at working well in a fast paced and pressurised working environment, and I always get every job done to a high standard no matter what the circumstances are.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I most enjoy learning the different personalities of the different horses and catering to their needs. for example, if there is a yearling that I have to deal with often, then I would get to know them and how I might have to alter my behaviours or style of work to be able to cater to them properly. I also really enjoy mucking out as I love cleaning and organising. my mucking out skills are always to my highest standard.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would like to improve my clipping skills.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I have 7 years of experience at a riding school and a private livery yard, so I have experience in different stable environments. I’ve also have great passion towards horses since a young age, and I care about them greatly. so everything I do when working with horses is done with their health as well as mine and other people’s health in mind.

Requirements
