Experience with Horses
Since March 2024 i have been a work rider and yard groom for a 5* eventer in Wiltshire where i efficiently completed all yard duties (mucking out, bedding up, restocking water and forage, maintaining a well organised and hygienic environment) and handled young-stock all the way to 5* event horses. Handling horses included turning out/ bringing in, lunging, hacking, and schooling plus was given multiple opportunities to do the canter work alongside the professional athlete. Whilst gaining valuable experience in turning out to a high standard (clipping, plaiting both manes and tails, pulling manes and tails, bathing tack cleaning and tacking up with the ability to apply polo wraps and bandages). I am also able to recognise the signs of injury/ health concerns with basic knowledge in equine first aid along with the ability to apply poultices and other wound bandaging. Regards riding, i have evented unaffiliated low level (80/90 cm) and have done unaffiliated showjumping up to 1.10 metres. With confidence in lunging, long reining, hacking and canter work.
Key Skills
- Being able to use my initiative and knowledge in the equine sector to both work/ lead a team or work unaccompanied on the yard to carry out jobs to a high standard.
- I am well organised (especially when it comes to equipment)!
- A punctual and reliable person.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
No two days are the same, i love getting stuck into any job and getting to know each horses individual personalities and needs.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
Would love the opportunity to do some more show grooming/ turning out to improve my skills and gain advice to interpret new ideas and opinions. I would also like to improve my knowledge on equine first aid.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I am a fun, bubbly person who communicates well and adapts efficiently to my environment and the needs of both horses/ people.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I would like more opportunities to improve my riding and gain advice from other riders out there alongside getting the opportunity to be part of a team getting to know both them and the horses more closely.
