Experience with Horses
I have been riding at Oakfield Farm for approaching eight years and have been a dedicated member of The Pony Club for seven years. During this time, I have completed over thirty achievement badges, demonstrating my commitment and enthusiasm for learning. I have also achieved both my Bronze and Silver YELA (Young Equestrian Leader’s Award) at Oakfield Farm and am currently working towards my Gold. In addition, I have spent the past two years also riding in the Improve Your Riding advanced group at Derby College Equestrian Centre, further developing my skills and experience.
Key Skills
My strengths include my academic achievements – completing and passing my first GCSE equivalent in Year 9 and achieving grade 7-9 (A-A**) in my ten remaining subjects.
I have a strong attention to detail and have been recognised for my plaiting and turnout skills. I pride myself on the feedback I have received from instructors, parents, and children regarding my caring and supportive nature while volunteering with a range of activities. I have a particular interest and experience working with young people with special educational needs.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I am passionate about horses, I enjoy practical work and being outdoors. Since first going on a hack aged 7, I have known I want to work with horses. I have both felt and observed the undeniable positive impact horses can have on people – young and old – and I would like to share this with others.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would like to continue to develop my knowledge and understanding of horses as I progress in the equine sector. I believe that the skills involved in the industry are always open to improvement and refinement.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
While I have not yet had the opportunity to own my own horse, through determination and commitment I have gained extensive experience in horse care and management within my various volunteering roles and involvement at Oakfield Farm and DCG. I am confident that my strong work ethic, dedication to the industry, and commitment to continuing my education will make me a valuable addition to any team.
