Experience with Horses

I grew up in a very ‘non-horsey’ family, on a council estate! When I was 10 I was treated to a birthday lesson because at this point I hadn’t stopped talking about horses, and from there the obsession grew and in exchange for help I would receive the opportunity to ride. I was always given the ‘naughty’ horses and soon got myself a reputation for being able to ‘ride anything’. I planned to get into horses for work but a complicated and complex home life put this on hold. At 16 I became homeless and had to do anything to get by.  Fast forward to now (34 years old) and for the most part, I have managed to keep my hand in with horses. I developed a deep love and affection for the countryside and way of life and last year successfully relocated to a more rural address. I’d say both myself and my partner have a ‘taste’ of it and although we are somewhat happy here, I still yearn for a full-time life with horses and a job that is more of a lifestyle.

I currently offer with my girlfriend, freelance equine services and alongside this I’m also a therapist and private tutor. We rent a small mobile home and try to live as close the country life as possible. It’s been a challenge as we both desperately want to be in a better living situation and both feel there is more to life than just working to pay the bills.

I also currently help a lady with her three hunting horses and keeping them in work/fit for the next season. They are very big, fit and forward going horses and it’s sparked my love for the hunting lifestyle.

Key Skills

I have successfully had my own businesses and have been a reliable, trustworthy and confident house, pet and business sitter, particularly within the horsey/countryside community. I have trained previously in classical dressage, rehabilitated, trained and broken in youngsters (mainly TB’s). Calm, methodical, and very particular with high standards of care, attention to detail and a bit OCD with presentation. I once helped a lady with an Andulusian and Friesian stallion who had previously been in eventing a learned an awful lot about care and horse husbandry. I also completed my BHS pathway, until the yard told me the couldn’t officially sign it off!!

Strengths and Weaknesses

Can’t explain the feeling horses give me, it’s magnetic. Everything changes when I’m around horses, I’ve lived quite a colourful life and it’s only when I’m with the horses I feel totally myself and 100% at peace. The minute I walk into their presence, and particularly when I’m sitting on one!!

• always keen to learn more, particularly to do with trail hunting. I’m obsessed with it, from turning out to etiquette and support everything it stands for. The respect and passion for the ways of the old.

• At 34, I would love for someone to give the chance of a lifetime and support me with finally doing what I truly believe I am here to do! I’ll never be in a position to go out and buy my own ‘cottage’ and stables….but I’ll sure as hell work my socks off for the opportunity to have a slice of it!

Requirements

• A friendly environment where we are all here for the same reason; the love of horses and the country way of life. Accommodation, with the potential to live there a very long time and become ‘part of the furniture’, along with my very lovely female partner, our rescue dog and cat.

• A place where people have a good sense of humour!

• no holidays booked as of yet and to be honest we aren’t really ‘holiday’ people, we are just happy in our own little world in the countryside with horses and dogs!
