Experience with Horses

I am a dedicated and results-oriented equine professional with a strong work ethic, proven reliability, and the ability to work confidently both independently and as part of a team. Throughout my academic and professional journey, I have consistently demonstrated punctuality, adaptability, and a keen eye for detail. I excel under pressure, using my pragmatic thinking and problem-solving skills to deliver high-quality outcomes in challenging situations. My most recent experience includes completing the Level 3 Stud Management & Sales Consignment Course at The National Stud (Sept 2024 – April 2025), where I gained hands-on experience with the daily health, veterinary care, and sales preparation of foals, weanlings, yearlings, broodmares (including those from both hemispheres), stallions, and spellers. I participated in sitting up, on-call, and foaling duties and completed sales placements at the October Yearling Sales (Books 1–4) for Houghton Bloodstock and the December Foal Sales at The National Stud. I also obtained several industry-relevant qualifications, including 1st4Sport Level 3 in Thoroughbred Stud Practices and Principles of Transporting Horses for Long Journeys, a Stud Administration certificate, and certifications in Emergency First Aid at Work and Manual Handling.

Academically, I hold a BSc (Hons) in Equine Science from University Centre Sparsholt (2021–2024), where I completed 111 hours of placement, three weeks of specialist study, and an optional five-week placement at Galloway Stud, graduating with a Second Class (Upper Division). My foundation was built at Moulton College, where I achieved a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Horse Management (2019–2021) with an overall grade of DDD*, completing over 300 hours of placement and earning British Horse Society Silver Care and Bronze Ride Challenge Awards. Professionally, I worked as a Freelance Stud Groom at Galloway Stud (March – July 2024), assisting with veterinary and farrier visits, feeding, mare preparation for covering, and yard maintenance. I also worked as a Freelance Groom at Ride High Equestrian Centre (July 2021 – April 2024), supporting commercial, council-funded, and charity services, often working with vulnerable, disadvantaged, and disabled children and young adults. In addition, I gained retail experience at RB Equestrian LTD, where I developed strong customer service and merchandising skills. My varied placements and voluntary roles—at Galloway Stud, Ride High Equestrian Centre, RB Equestrian LTD, and Milton Keynes Eventing Centre—have provided me with a well-rounded and deeply practical understanding of horse care, management, and the broader equine industry.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

Through my extensive academic, professional, and voluntary experience within the equine industry, I have developed a strong set of practical and transferable skills. I am highly reliable, punctual, and self-motivated, with the ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team. My hands-on experience has strengthened my equine husbandry skills, including daily care, veterinary assistance, foaling, sales preparation, and handling a variety of horses, from foals to stallions. I have excellent problem-solving abilities, with a pragmatic and adaptable approach to challenges, remaining calm and focused under pressure. My attention to detail is evident in my commitment to maintaining high standards of care and organisation across yard, stud, and retail environments. I also possess strong communication and customer service skills, developed through working with the public, clients, and vulnerable individuals in both equestrian and retail settings. Additionally, I hold multiple industry-recognised qualifications in stud practices, horse transport, administration, and first aid, further supporting my ability to work professionally and safely in a range of equine settings.

Strengths and Weaknesses

What I enjoy most about working with horses is the dynamic nature of the work and the deep bond that develops through consistent care and attention. I thrive in the daily challenges of horse husbandry, whether it’s working with foals, broodmares, or stallions, and I take great satisfaction in ensuring their well-being. I particularly enjoy the variety of tasks, from feeding and veterinary care to preparing horses for sales or shows, as each day offers new opportunities to learn and grow. The hands-on experience of foaling and assisting with the preparation of mares for covering is something I find both rewarding and fascinating. I also appreciate the collaborative aspect of working with a team, especially in busy yard environments where clear communication and shared responsibilities are key. Whether I am working independently or with others, my passion for horse care and the equine industry drives me to constantly strive for high standards and excellence.

While I have developed a strong foundation in various areas of equine care and management, there are several aspects I would like to improve. One key area is expanding my knowledge and experience in advanced veterinary care, particularly in diagnosing and managing more complex health issues in horses. I would also like to enhance my skills in equine breeding and reproductive management, as I am particularly interested in refining my understanding of mare and stallion management, as well as improving my ability to handle challenging situations in foaling and sales preparation. Additionally, while I am comfortable working both independently and in teams, I would like to further develop my leadership and management skills in busy yard environments, especially when overseeing teams during high-demand periods. Lastly, I aim to continue improving my communication skills, particularly in managing client relationships and supporting teams in collaborative settings, ensuring clear and effective exchanges in both equine and non-equine environments.

Employers should consider me above other job seekers due to my diverse and extensive experience in the equine industry, combined with my strong work ethic and adaptability. I have demonstrated reliability and high standards across multiple roles, from stud grooming to retail, which highlights my versatility and commitment to delivering quality results in any environment. My academic background in Equine Science, along with specialized qualifications in stud practices and horse transport, has provided me with the technical knowledge required to excel in the industry. I also possess hands-on experience in various aspects of horse care, including veterinary assistance, foaling, and preparing horses for sales and shows, making me highly skilled in both the practical and administrative sides of the equine business. In addition, my experience working with vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals showcases my empathy, strong communication skills, and ability to work effectively in diverse team settings. My ability to remain focused and calm under pressure, while maintaining high standards of care and organization, ensures that I can contribute positively to any workplace, making me a valuable asset to any employer in the equine industry.

Requirements

In my next job, I am eager to continue developing my skills in equine management while gaining further experience in a hands-on, high-level environment. I hope to expand my knowledge and practical experience in stud management, horse sales, and the preparation of horses for shows, focusing on both the technical and managerial aspects of the industry. I would also like to enhance my ability to manage a team, taking on more leadership responsibilities and helping to foster a collaborative and efficient work environment. Additionally, I am keen to deepen my understanding of advanced equine veterinary care, particularly in relation to foaling, breeding, and youngstock management. Through my next position, I aspire to work alongside experienced professionals who can mentor me, helping me further hone my skills and prepare for a future leadership role in the equine industry. Ultimately, I seek a role where I can make a meaningful contribution while continuing to learn and grow professionally.

I do not require accommodation for this position and have no specific needs concerning animals. I have no ongoing commitments or scheduled holidays, so I am able to commit fully to the role. Regarding salary, I would need a wage that allows me to save and work towards obtaining my driving license.
