Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have extensive practical experience with horses, developed through both personal and professional involvement over many years. I have cared for a range of horses, from competition showjumpers to leisure horses, with responsibilities including daily yard duties, stable management, exercise and fitness routines, grooming, first aid, and general welfare monitoring. My background includes riding and competing in showjumping, which has given me valuable skills in horse handling, performance management, and understanding individual behavioural needs.
Alongside hands-on horse care, I have a strong foundation in equine science and welfare, developed through my academic studies. I am confident managing horse health regimes, spotting early signs of illness or injury, and supporting rehabilitation programmes under veterinary guidance. I take pride in maintaining high standards of care and welfare in all aspects of horse management.
I am reliable, hardworking, and able to work independently or as part of a team. My experience is backed by a genuine passion for working with horses and ensuring their well-being at all times.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
-
Providing excellent customer service, both face-to-face and through written communication, with a professional and approachable manner.
-
Managing administration tasks such as record-keeping, database management, scheduling, and reporting with strong attention to detail.
-
Communicating confidently and professionally with clients, suppliers, and team members.
-
Using my equestrian knowledge to assist owners, riders, or members with advice, services, or general enquiries.
-
Working independently, prioritising tasks effectively, and meeting deadlines in a busy environment.
-
Maintaining accurate and organised information relating to horse welfare, competition entries, or membership details.
-
Handling sensitive or confidential information with care and professionalism.
-
Being adaptable and willing to assist in different areas, from customer-facing tasks to behind-the-scenes support.
-
Using Microsoft Office software confidently (Word, Excel, Outlook) and learning new systems quickly.
My equestrian background gives me a strong understanding of the industry, enabling me to communicate naturally with riders, owners, and organisations. Combined with my administrative skills and professional attitude, I can add value to office-based roles within the equestrian sector.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I really enjoy the connection you build with horses through daily care and observation. I find it very rewarding to understand their individual personalities and needs, and to support their welfare both physically and emotionally. I also enjoy the structure and responsibility that comes with managing their care routines and being part of an environment where attention to detail really matters.
Even though I’m now aiming for a more office-based role in the equestrian world, I appreciate how my hands-on horse experience gives me a real understanding of owners’, riders’, and horses’ needs — which I believe helps me provide better customer service, administration, and support behind the scenes.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would like to continue developing my skills with specialist office software used in the equestrian industry, such as bespoke event management systems, CRM databases, or membership platforms. Although I am confident with general Microsoft Office tools like Word and Excel, I believe gaining more experience with sector-specific systems would help me become even more efficient and valuable in an office-based role.
I also want to continue building my knowledge of the wider equestrian business sector, beyond the competition and welfare areas I’m most familiar with, to better support different types of clients and organisations.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I combine real equestrian knowledge with strong administrative skills, giving me a unique understanding of both horses and the people who work with them. I am professional, organised, and able to manage busy workloads with care and attention to detail. I also communicate clearly and confidently with clients, colleagues, and the wider public, always aiming to provide excellent service.
Because I understand both the practical side of horse care and the professional expectations of office-based roles, I can bridge the gap between front-line equestrian work and behind-the-scenes administration. I am passionate about the industry, committed to continuous improvement, and genuinely motivated to contribute to the success of the organisation I work for.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
In my next job, I would like to build on my administrative and organisational skills within the equestrian industry, supporting events, customers, or welfare work from an office-based role. I want to develop more experience with specialist systems like CRM databases or event management platforms, and strengthen my understanding of how equestrian organisations run behind the scenes.
At the same time, I’m looking for a role where I can stay connected to the equestrian world I’m passionate about, contribute to a professional team, and continue learning and growing within the sector long-term.
