Experience with Horses

I have many years experience within the equine industry, having ridden from the age of 4. I have competed at a local and county level with my own horses, mainly doing showing in recent years.

I hold a BSc (Hons) degree in Equine Science. As part of my degree I studied a wide range of modules including biochemistry, nutrition and anatomy & physiology. I also have riding school experience, having been based on one for two years during my time completing an Equine Management college course. Part of this course involved doing the yard work for the school horses and ponies in the morning & evenings, as well as using them for ridden units.

As goes with horses I also have experience dealing with various injuries and illness, having rehabilitated following surgery & lameness, and have dealt with illnesses like colic. I currently have horses of my own, whom are all home-produced. I have backed / started youngsters and helped friends with problems with their own horses.

I would consider a non-yard based role in either nutrition, having specialised in this during my degree, or potentially lab work.

Key Skills

I enjoy working as part of a team but am equally happy to work independently where necessary, having taken sole charge of client horses before on both my own small livery yard as well as while working as a groom on a freelance and employed basis.

I have experience handling stallions and youngstock.

I currently turn my own native horses out for showing and clip myself in winter. As well as this, I have a lot of experience within rehabilitation following both surgery and lameness/other issues for both my own horses & clients and have a particular interest in rehabilitation alongside equine nutrition.

In terms of non-equine skills, I have several years of customer service, excellent IT skills and have worked within a busy Equine Veterinary practice handling prescription drugs, booking appointments and dealing with emergency calls.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• I enjoy being outdoors and looking after horses as though they are my own, seeing the rewarding moments in rehabilitation cases and learning on the go as no two days are ever the same.

• I would like the opportunity to learn any new skills available.

• I am a self-motivated, capable person that is keen to learn but also already with a vast knowledge of horses practically (day to day) and scientifically.  I am happy to work both independently and as part of a team, and can adapt quickly to whatever situation the day calls for.
