Experience with Horses
Dedicated and passionate horsewoman with nearly 20 years of hands-on experience caring for and riding a wide variety of horses, including my own. Though my professional background is in corporate law, horses have always been at the centre of my life. I’ve owned and cared for everything from cobs to warmbloods and ex-racers, competed in eventing, and regularly handled and exercised other people’s horses on livery yards.
I’m now looking to step into yard or riding work where I can turn my lifelong passion into meaningful, practical work.
Experienced Horse Owner & Rider – Personal and Yard-Based Experience | Ongoing since 2005
•Owned and managed multiple horses including competition horses, ex-racehorses, and green projects
•Regularly exercised other horses on livery yards for owners unable to ride including hacking, lunging, flatwork, jumping and XC.
•Assisted with day-to-day yard duties including turnout, mucking out, feeding, tack cleaning, and general care
•Competed in unaffiliated eventing and ridden in varied environments from schooling arenas to open countryside
•Comfortable handling youngsters, sharp horses, and horses in rehab or retraining
•Trusted by fellow owners to care for their horses during holidays or busy periods
Key Skills
I’ve ridden and cared for horses since the age of 5, including owning my own for over a decade. I’m confident riding and handling a variety of horse, I’m particularly skilled at:
•Riding fit or sensitive horses
•Schooling, hacking, and general fitness work
•Basic yard duties: mucking out, feeding, grooming, turning out, poo picking
•Spotting signs of discomfort, illness, or injury early on
•Working calmly and confidently around horses of all temperaments
I’m quick to learn, happy to take direction, and genuinely enjoy being part of a hardworking yard environment. I also have a reference to fast track to complete my stage 2 BHS and am in the process of organising this.
Outside of equine life I have worked in corporate law firms and run my own virtual assistant business where I assisted CEOs with PA work. Here I developed strong organisational, time management, and communication skills and am now used to working in high-pressure environments with attention to detail. I’m transitioning to hands-on, outdoors work that aligns with personal passion.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
Everything but especially building trust with each horse. I love the rhythm of yard life, spending time outdoors, and being hands-on with both the care and the riding. There’s no better feeling than seeing a horse thrive because of consistent and thoughtful handling.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I’d love to gain more experience working on a professional yard and expand my skills in stable management and show prep. I’m keen to learn more about handling stallions and foals if the opportunity arises.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I may not have worked professionally in the equine industry, but horses have been my life for nearly 20 years. I’ve owned, cared for, and ridden a wide range of horses, including competition types and ex-racers. I’m reliable, trustworthy, and genuinely passionate. I’ll treat your horses like they’re my own, and I’m always willing to go the extra mile on the yard.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
In my next role, I’m looking to build on my existing experience caring for and riding a wide variety of horses by working in a professional, fast-paced yard where high standards of horse care are a priority.
I’d love a role that includes both riding and yard duties, ideally with opportunities to work with competition horses or fit, sensitive types. I’m calm, observant, and always willing to learn new techniques or adapt to different systems. I’m especially interested in refining my skills around show prep, fitness routines, and advanced flatwork or schooling.
• Do you need accommodation?
No, I also have my own transport
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
No, but I do have a dog which I would maybe like to bring along sometimes but this isn’t a must
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
No
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
August 10th for 1 week
