Experience with Horses
I have been riding for the last 20 years and have produced many young and green horses through the grades with successes up to mid level eventing and show jumping.
Recently, I started two young horses under saddle myself, one I produced up to 95cm eventing (schooling over 105cm cross country and 110cm show jumping) and producing mid to low dressage scores. The other, I took to the Young Event Pony competition at the National Equestrian Center in Christchurch April 2025 where she placed 3rd overall (only 0.43 points between 1st and 3rd), best performed 4 year old and the best score for the dressage phase in the field (even against some 5 year olds).
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at?
I am good at staying calm in trying situations, so horses tend to stay a bit calmer also. I have a soft hand on the rein and light seat in the saddle and can sit some decent spicyness (buck, rear, etc (not that I want to)). I have clipped and turned out my own horses for competition, still plenty of room to grow in this. I have good time management and can keep track of maintenance records for multiple horses.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses? Producing young a green horses and seeing them learn and grow in confidence as they get more exposure.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve? There is always something new to learn every day when working with horses. I am willing to be a sponge.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker? I am a proactive thinker who tries to get the horses to where they need to be before they need to be there.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job? Plenty of riding and I would like to gain experience with high * level eventers both nationally and internationally.
• Do you need accommodation? Yes
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you? No
• Do you have any ongoing commitments? No
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of? No
