Experience with Horses
I have ridden and been around horses for 20 years since I was a child. As a teenager a had a temporary part time job working for an event rider at Kelsall Hill in Cheshire. Then at the age of 21 I joined the British Army, and joined The King’s Troop which is a mounted Ceremonial Unit. My day – to – day job consisted of caring for, riding and working with 14 – 18 Military Working Horses and their kit. Once I promoted this then meant I was solely in charge of ensuring the horses were turned out to the highest of standard for parade and all their welfare needs were met so they remained fit and healthy to do their job. I rode every day, often riding with 2 horses in hand, we also did a lot of fast work, schooling and jumping to keep the horses fit and able to do their job.
Key Skills
My strengths lie with turning horses out to a high standard, turning the yard out to a high standard, working well as a team as this is something I have done throughout my years in the military.
I’m also very confident handling fit, working horses, as well as younger horses.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• Working with horses I enjoy seeing their progression and being able to bond with the horses and learn about their different personalities. I also love being active and on the go caring for horses and ensuring their needs are met.
• Plaiting is something I have not done much of for a long time, due to the military horses being hogged for safety reasons as they do most of their work in harness.
• I am hard working, reliable and punctual. My time in the military has taught me discipline and the importance of working to the highest of standards, I also gained some Equine Qualifications whilst being in the military.
Requirements
• I would like to gain experience and progress working on a civilian yard, as they will differ from working on a military yard.
• No accommodation is needed.
• I am not able to begin work until November due to being tied in with the Army until this point.
