Experience with Horses
My earlier experiences involved harness/ standardbred racing, training, breaking in and retraining after racing to being ridden. I used to compete in “Show Rings Events” in Australia which, in comparison is flatwork ridding in a show ring. Since stopping competing, I have spent time on fames mustering cattle on horse back, horse trekking in New Zealand, being a stable groom for a high end city racing stable in Sydney, Australia and doing foal watch for a season also. I have experienced a variety of areas of the equine world and even through my time working as a veterinary nurse, it crosses over to my bandaging skills and animal first aid skills. I have a keen eye for observing lameness and possible issues involving the soundness of a horse.
Key Skills
I have a wide variety of skills such as, but not limited to, working alone or in a team, bandaging for protection or medical purposes, observation skills to detect lameness and illness, efficiency in cleaning stalls, tack, equipment and other equine related things. I have the knowledge to plait to a show level but will need some time to get my skills back to the level required as it has been quite some time since I have had to do so.
I have the confidence and knowledge to handle foals, youngstock, stallions and high end performance horses with care, calmness and integrity. Within the same category, I am also capable and confident to back and ride all the same.
I also have efficient communication skills and am able to comprehend scenarios and make judgements where necessary with or without conformation from others.
Strengths and Weaknesses
My strengths include, but are not limited to, my communication skills, observation techniques, ability to have a “can- do” attitude, being a fun and friendly body to help boost moral and be supportive in any scenario and situation. I also have an eye for detail, organization, time management skills and an ability to prioritise and delegate tasks as well as being a fast learner and a good listener.
Some of my weaknesses are my lack of skills in plaiting and clipping due to the time frame in which I have had to do these things, especially to a high level.
In some scenarios I do need to physically see a new instruction or location in order to complete a request as I am a very hands-on learner, this does not apply to all situations and is subject to comfortability to make mistakes and ability to learn by trial and error.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I would like to gain more skills in a high performance yard to plait, clip and groom to a higher level. I always strive to improve my people skills and communication with people from different backgrounds and with different skillsets whom can teach new things. I am always open to earning and expanding my own skills in all areas. I do like to lead and do like roles where I am able to have any level of independence in any area as I can often learn better when I can do some trial and error for myself.
• Do you need accommodation?
Within the Hertfordshire area, no but outside of that, yes. In saying that, for job offerings that require live-in, even within the Hertfordshire rea, I am happy to live-in also.
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
No.
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
The 14th to the 28th of September I will be going back to Australia.
