Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

-I have over 17 years of experience with horses and have worked with a wide variety—from highly reactive types to laid-back happy hackers. While my primary focus has been flat showing, particularly with light horses, I’ve also taken part in showjumping and cross-country rallies over the years. For the past eight years, I have specialized in showing heavy horses in-hand, as well as riding and grooming for carriage driving. I’ve had the honour of placing at the Royal Highland Show two years in a row as a rider. Although I currently jump at a low level (70–80 cm) due to taking time out to focus on flat showing, I’m eager to develop my skills further and progress to a higher level.I am currently studying Equine Science at Hartpury University, where I’m continuing to develop my knowledge and practical skills in all areas of horse care and performance. I’m enthusiastic, hardworking, and always ready to get involved in any aspect of horse care or yard work.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

-I work well both independently and as part of a team, adapting quickly to different tasks and managing workloads efficiently. I take great pride in turnout and grooming, ensuring horses are clean, shiny, and well-presented for shows. I also maintain tack to a high standard and enjoy supporting riders to help create a calm, stress-free, and enjoyable environment

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

-I thoroughly enjoy building strong bonds with horses and take great satisfaction in supporting their development. I find it incredibly rewarding to watch them progress in their discipline, grow in confidence, and feel safe, happy, and comfortable just being a horse

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

-I’m eager to improve my overall riding technique and boost my confidence, as I sometimes doubt my abilities despite knowing I am capable of completing tasks successfully

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

-Employers should consider me because I bring a combination of  hands-on experience, a strong work ethic, and a genuine passion for horses and their care. With over 17 years of experience working with a wide variety of horses, plus my current studies in Equine Science at Hartpury University, I have both the practical skills and theoretical knowledge to fit the majority of roles. I am adaptable, able to work well independently or as part of a team, and always eager to learn and take on new challenges. My commitment to providing high-quality care, along with my enthusiasm to support both horses and riders, ensures that I contribute positively to the team and environment
