Experience with Horses
I have years of hands-on experience working with a wide variety of horses across different environments, including riding schools, rescue centres, university facilities, and equestrian centres. I have been studying the horse through equine academic courses since 2019, consistently building my knowledge through both formal education and hands-on work placements.

Currently, I am studying for a BSc (Hons) in Racehorse Performance and Rehabilitation at Hartpury University, where I have gained in-depth knowledge of equine anatomy, care, and rehabilitation. Alongside my studies, I have worked at the Hartpury University Equine Therapy Centre gaining valuable experience in a professional rehabilitation setting.

My practical experience includes a wide range of daily yard duties such as mucking out, grooming, feeding, preparing hay nets and feeds, and keeping the yard clean and safe. I have hands-on experience with key horse care tasks including tacking up and untacking, leading and turning horses out, as well as assisting with riding lessons at an RDA centre. I am also familiar with groundwork exercises such as lunging and have some experience with long reining, which has helped me develop a deeper understanding of horse behaviour, communication and training from the ground.

I have worked with a variety of horses, from ponies and Shetlands to ex-racehorses and competition horses.

Key placements and roles include:

  • Beechley Stables (RDA Riding School), Liverpool – Assisted with RDA riding lessons, supported beginner riders, and carried out general yard duties (2021–2022, Summer 2023, and Summer 2025 – currently volunteering)
  • Halewood Shetland Rescue – Helped care for a range of rescue animals including Shetlands and farm animals (2019–2020)
  • Bold Heath Equestrian CentreReaseheath College StablesMyerscough Stables, and Burrows Lane Stables– Gained additional experience in yard management and horse care during placements (2019–2022)

In all my roles, I have demonstrated reliability, confidence around horses, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. My passion for horse care and welfare is supported by my formal qualifications, including a Level 3 Diploma in Equine Management and a Level 2 Technical Certificate in Equine Care.

I hold a full UK driving licence and have my own car, allowing me to travel to yards and events as needed.

Key Skills
I am confident working both independently and as part of a team, with a strong work ethic and attention to detail. I have developed excellent horse-handling skills through years of hands-on experience with a range of horses, including young horses, ponies, Shetlands, ex-racehorses, and rescue animals.

Some of my key skills include:

  • Daily yard duties: mucking out, feeding, grooming, preparing hay nets, and maintaining yard cleanliness
  • Confident horse handling: including leading horses in different settings and assisting with RDA sessions
  • Experience with a variety of horses: including young, nervous, and rescue horses, as well as horses in rehabilitation
  • Teamwork: I work well in fast-paced team environments such as busy yards and retail settings, and I can take initiative when working alone
  • Good communication: particularly with beginner riders and team members, as demonstrated in my volunteering at riding schools
  • Adaptability and reliability: shown through balancing academic studies with part-time and seasonal work
  • Non-equine skills: customer service, time management, booking systems, and working in warehouse operations and retail roles

I have previous experience in skills such as clipping, plaiting, and show preparation. Although I haven’t used these skills recently, I am confident I can quickly refresh them and perform to a high standard. I am always enthusiastic about learning and maintaining best practices in all areas of equine care. Additionally, I hold a full UK driving licence, which allows flexibility in travelling to different yards or events.

Strengths and Weaknesses

What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I most enjoy building a bond with each individual horse and seeing their progress over time, whether that’s in their health, behaviour, or performance. I find great satisfaction in the daily care routines, and I particularly enjoy the calm focus that comes with grooming, feeding, and keeping the yard well-run. I also love the challenge of working with different types of horses, especially those that need extra patience or support.

Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I am especially keen to develop my skills within a stud setting, with a strong interest in working closely with mares and foals to gain a deeper understanding of breeding, foaling, and young-stock management. I would also value the opportunity to work with stallions and expand my understanding of their handling and care within a professional stud environment. I’m especially eager to apply the knowledge gained through my degree in a practical setting, and I’m always open to feedback and keen to learn from experienced professionals in the field.

Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I am passionate, reliable, and genuinely committed to horse welfare and the equine industry. I combine practical yard experience with academic knowledge from my degree in Racehorse Performance and Rehabilitation, which gives me a well-rounded understanding of both hands-on care and the science behind it. I’m not afraid of hard work, I take pride in every task, no matter how small and I always bring a positive, can-do attitude to the yard. I’m also flexible, hold a full UK driving licence, and adapt quickly to new routines, making me a valuable addition to any team.

Requirements

  • What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

In my next role, I would be interested to work within an equine stud. I am keen  to gain hands-on experience in reproductive management and foaling. I am particularly interested in developing my skills in handling broodmares and foals, stallion management, assisting with veterinary procedures and learning more about the day to day operations of a professional equine stud.

  • Do you need accommodation?

I would be interested in accommodation if available.

  • Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

I do have a small rabbit, who I would like to keep with me, but this is not a requirement as I am able to leave her with family over my time of work.

  • Do you have any ongoing commitments?

I am currently at University, but this job role I’m seeking is for my placement year out in the equine industry, however I will be returning to my studies in September 2026.

  • Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

No holidays booked
