Experience with Horses
I have extensive experience working with horses in a range of demanding and high-standard environments. During my time in the military, I was responsible for backing and breaking young horses, preparing them for ceremonial duties — a role that required exceptional discipline, patience, and skill. My responsibilities included all aspects of stable and horse care, from top-level turnout and grooming to feeding, mucking out, and tack maintenance. I have also worked freelance for a 4* young event rider, gaining insight into the training and management of elite competition horses. In addition, I’ve held a senior role at a busy livery yard and worked at a high-output riding school, both of which sharpened my ability to manage multiple horses and clients efficiently while maintaining excellent standards of care and professionalism.
Key Skills
I am a hardworking and dedicated individual with a strong sense of initiative and a proactive approach to every task. Equally comfortable working independently or as part of a team, I am always eager to learn—regardless of whether a task is simple or complex. I prioritise horse welfare above all else and maintain high standards of care at all times. My experience includes clipping, plaiting, bathing, and full preparation for competitions. I take pride in keeping the yard clean and organised, and I bring a calm, patient, yet firm manner when handling stronger or more challenging horses.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
What I like best about working with horses is the bond and trust you build with each individual animal. Every horse has its own personality, and getting to understand them, care for them, and help them feel safe and confident is incredibly rewarding. I also enjoy the routine and responsibility that comes with their care—knowing that their well-being depends on attention to detail, patience, and consistency. Whether it’s preparing them for a competition or just spending quiet time in the stable, I find working with horses both grounding and fulfilling.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
One area I’m always looking to improve is my technical knowledge, especially when it comes to more advanced veterinary care or training techniques. I’m confident in the day-to-day care and handling of horses, but I know there’s always more to learn—whether it’s understanding subtle health signs earlier, or refining my skills in groundwork and schooling. I take every opportunity to learn from more experienced team members, vets, or trainers, and I believe that constantly improving helps me give the best care possible.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
Employers should consider me because I bring a genuine passion for horse care and a strong work ethic that’s hard to match. I don’t just do the job—I truly care about each horse’s well-being, and I treat every task, big or small, with the same level of importance. I’m dependable, clean and tidy, and always ready to learn something new. I’m also confident in my handling skills, especially with stronger or more challenging horses, and I bring a calm, patient energy to the yard. Whether working alone or as part of a team, I stay focused, proactive, and committed to doing the job to a high standard.
