Experience with Horses
I have worked on an International Dressage yard for 5 years initially as a volunteer, and in recent years paid working all weekends , and then weekdays in school holidays.
I undertake all yard jobs from opening up yard in a morning /closing down in an evening. Mucking out, preparing feeds, feeding, haying, tack cleaning, administering medicine, preparing horses to be ridden, tacking up/untacking. Bandaging and rugging as needed. Turn out/bring in. Show prep for clients when needed. At weekends can be in sole charge. Organise hay delivery if needed. There are a range of horses from youngsters to Grand Prix. Very occasionally I am required to hack certain ones with others.
I have also done a stay away show with a client and her ponies two years ago.
I have ridden myself since I was 5. I currently have a youngster (just 6). I have previously competed upto medium and schooled to Grand prix. I have ridden two horses owned by others , that I schooled a couple of times a week at Home International one in 2021 one in 2024.
I have now left school and am free virtually all summer. I have a driving licence and car.
Key Skills
I am very trustworthy, and am a hard worker. I can be trusted to work alone and ensure all assigned jobs completed to a high standard. I have generally good communication skills , and am more than able to engage well with all of our clients. At our yard in the past there have been prestigious events with top clients / visitors / sponsors. I learnt many years ago how to bandage and plait, and believe turnout is very important. I am capable of good plaiting, mane management and all other aspects of grooming. From a very young age I always had to prepare my own ponies / horses too.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I have always found a good bond with horses. I enjoy working outdoors.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I sometimes need to listen more, but i know that is a maturity thing.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I am a very hard worker, very trustworthy. Never take a day of ill. I can start immediately.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I thought my current employer had extra hours for me over the summer but they do not, indeed they are reducing staff and said I should start looking for more work if i need more hours which is a shame. I am always ready to learn new skills. But being totally honest I want a job to make the most of the summer, not just be at home I have always worked hard. And need to save to fund myself through university.
