Experience with Horses
I have 7 years experience working in the horse industry. I started when I was 13 volunteering at my local riding school every week until I was 16, when I went to college to study a Level 3 Diploma in Equine management.
I then moved on to full time employment at a riding school. Over Covid years I went freelance which included roles working on event yards and showjumping yards, where I gained experience working with competition horses, broodmares, foals and stallions. I also had to get a normal part time job along side these roles in a hair salon as a receptionist as work was hard to find with covid.
I then got a full time employed role as head yard staff at a busy livery yard/ kennels/ cattery. Where I managed the day to day care of all the livery horses and organised new and existing staff members. I also worked front of house along side the horses, this was dealing with the clients for the dogs and cats and making bookings and taking payments. I did this from Jan 2022 to August 2024 when I went self employed again to get back into the showjumping scene. Where I am now currently working for a clients as a the main yard staff running a private yard of 20+ horses including Youngstock, stallions and competition horses. I also travel to the local shows and when the owner is away at stay away shows, I take sole charge of all the horses at home.
Key Skills
I can carry out all aspects of day to day care of horses including a high level of knowledge of first aid, plaiting, clipping and trimming.
I can work in a team or take sole charge. I’m extremely trustworthy and self sufficient which means I excel at taking some responsibility when needed.
My attention to detail is always of high standard, and it’s very rare I miss any abnormalities.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I love working with horses as I find them rewarding, I also have a passion for riding and training, so seeing them progress in your care is a feeling like no other.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would like to carry on my ridden progression. And I am very interested in the breeding side of things and would like to learn more about youngstock and foal handling.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I think I stand out over other job seekers as I have a brilliant work ethic and I’m not afraid of manual labour. I know the job and what’s asked of us in these roles, and the horses are my life so working with them makes my passion about their care even greater.
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
No
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
