Experience with Horses
I have spent 13 years in my most recent, and current, position on a private yard in Newport Pagnell. My boss was a Master of Hounds for many years, so I have spent most of my time dealing with hunters, although have competed in all RC activities with my own horses. We are a small team, and I have managed the yard for several years. I can ride and turnout to a high standard, and the horse’s welfare is always at the forefront for me.
Key Skills
Working with Hunters, requires high standards of turnout; I am very good at scrubbing a grey horse!! I can clip to a high standard, as well as plaiting with both bands or thread. I spent many years showing my own horses, so again, good at turning out.
We’re a small yard, so I’ve always worked as part of a small team, but equally enjoy working on my own. I can self motivate and organise my day to get everything done.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I love the connections and bonds you build with horses, especially if they (and I) are long term residents. I really enjoyed making their lives as fulfilling and happy as possible.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would love to improve my own personal riding. I can ride well and sympathetically, but would love to explore more training and producing at some point.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I am loyal and dedicated. I have been in my current post for 13 years. I genuinely just love being with the horses.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I would love to learn more about training and producing horses, although my main objective is just to give horses the happiest, healthiest lives possible in my care.
• Do you need accommodation?
Not necessarily.
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
I do have 2 horses of my own, very easy mares. And 2 terriers. Location obviously plays a big part in what happens with them.
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
I am currently employed. But, it’s looking increasingly likely that this job will be ending soon due to property sale. I have no time frame for that at present.
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
What’s a holiday?!
