Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I started riding when I was 10 at Lee Valley Riding Centre, London. I had weekly lessons in flat work and later in jumping and continued lessons into adulthood during my two year College course at Hadlow and also in my current role at Shardeloes.
I was a Stable Helper at Lee Valley for six years and was a member of Pony Club for five years.
I was an adult volunteer at Lee Valley Riding Centre. I also did yard duties at Hadlow college regularly as part of my course. As a second year student, I regularly lead the first year students on the yard.
I have had successful work experience placements at the British Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Centre, Twemlows Stud Farm, Talland School of Equitation and Country Farm Stud.
I left Hadlow college in June 2022 after completing my Level 3 Extended Diploma in Equine Management and Behaviour. I then immediately began working as a yard groom at Shardeloes where I am now.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I am used to running the Livery by myself at Shardeloes and I am also a great team player. I can use my own initiative and am also great at communication with the rest of the team. I am highly regarded by my client base on the Livery yard.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I love working with horses and being around them. I like getting to know their individual personalities and working with their characters. I love being outdoors, meeting new challenges, learning new skills and being part of a well run yard.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I really want to work on my clipping, trimming, plaiting and other skills. At Shardeloes, it was down to the Managers to do this and I’d love to do it regularly and make an excellent job of it.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I am hard working, eager to learn, reliable, punctual and friendly. I really enjoy working with other people and love a busy yard.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I would like to carry on with my BHS training. I want to ride and jump and improve my skills with working a horse on the ground.
• Do you need accommodation?
Yes.
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
No.
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
No.
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
