Experience with Horses

Looking for a short-term or gap-year opportunity before entering veterinary school’. First paid horse job but very capable.

I have around 4–5 years of experience with horses, including both practical and academic knowledge. I completed a training course in equine and livestock veterinary assistance and have worked with horses in stable management, daily routines, feeding, grooming, and assisting with medical treatments under supervision. I’ve also done pet-sitting and worked part-time jobs while preparing to enter veterinary school.

I’m confident with groundwork, lunging, feeding routines, and basic handling of horses of different temperaments. I’m very calm around animals, patient, and always eager to learn more.

Key Skills

  • Horse handling (young and adult horses)

  • Grooming and plaiting

  • Basic veterinary care (bandaging, wound care, medication administration under guidance)

  • Groundwork and lunging

  • Working independently or as part of a team

  • Reliable with routines and attention to detail

  • Basic riding experience

  • First aid knowledge

  • Fluent in Portuguese and English

  • Valid driving licence (B1)

  • Very organised, emotionally intelligent, and adaptable to new environments

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I love creating bonds with each horse and learning their personalities. I enjoy the daily care routines and find calm and purpose in grooming, feeding, and spending time around them. I also enjoy assisting with health care and understanding their behaviour.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would like to improve my confidence with riding and learn more about equine physiotherapy and training techniques. I’m also eager to gain more clinical experience to support my future veterinary studies.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I’m passionate about animal care, hardworking, calm under pressure, and genuinely committed to learning and improving. I take my responsibilities seriously and always aim to support the team and the horses to the best of my ability. I’m also reliable, communicative, and easy to live and work with.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I would like to deepen my experience in equine care and improve my practical skills, especially in stable work, veterinary care, and handling different types of horses. I’d also love to be part of a supportive team and contribute to the daily well-being of the horses.

• Do you need accommodation?

Yes, I would prefer a live-in position.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

No, I do not have any animals to bring.

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

No.

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

No.
