Experience with Horses

A vast variety of experience within the equine industry most recently having had my own 25 acre 10 box yard which ran for a number of years as a successful livery and sales yard. Previous to this I have worked at a large Spanish stud handling youngstock, breaking and training stallions and showing stock to customers. Four years experience instructing at a classical dressage yard and producing horses for clients. Extensive equine first aid experience.

I’ve spent a lot of time in a high management position in another industry and have a keen eye for costs and the bottom line as well as admin capabilities.

Key Skills

Working alone, working with others , handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, profit management, business admin, teaching, flatwork, equine first aid, time management

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I grew up absolutely loving horses – unable to have my own I helped at riding stables and had part loans until I finally purchased my own with my first job at 16. I’ve never been without horses since and I genuinely love spending my days around them, be it caring for their daily needs or starting a young horses ridden career.

•Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I have a great sense of humour and am practical about what working with horses involves. I know that winter is miserable, I know that hay will get everywhere no matter how many layers you wear and the horse will poo as soon as you’ve mucked him out and I love it anyway.

Requirements

• Do you need accommodation?

Ideally a live in position with non-shared accommodation – but live out is considered for the right option.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

I have well trained dogs who can be offset as yard gaurd dogs for VAT if wanted – they are German Shepards and used to coming to work with me but I would consider a live in position where they can be left at home.

I do have my own horses but if no livery available on-site I can make provisions locally for them.

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

No

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

No
