Experience with Horses
I have over 6 years’ hands-on experience working with horses in professional yard environments, including grooming, riding, and competition support. I have groomed at 4★ international eventing competitions and worked for Olympic riders and top-level showjumpers, gaining insight into the standards required at the highest levels of the sport.
As a rider, I have competed up to Foxhunter level showjumping and 2★ eventing, giving me a strong understanding of competition preparation, training, and horse management. Alongside riding, I am confident in stable management, daily care routines, and ensuring horses are presented and cared for to the highest standards.
Key Skills
- Confident and experienced rider of a wide variety of horses, from young horses through to competition level
- Grooming and preparation for 4★ eventing competitions and top-level showjumping shows
- Handling of mares and foals , fit competition horses, and young or sharp horses
- Skilled in clipping, plaiting, and show turnout
- Have spent the last two summers breaking in 3/4 year olds
- Strong understanding of competition schedules and the demands of international-level yards
- Able to work independently or as part of a professional team
- Reliable, hard-working, and physically fit for yard duties
- Non-equine transferable skills: organisation, communication, time management, and problem solving under pressure
Strengths and Weaknesses
- What I most enjoy about working with horses: I enjoy the challenge and reward of preparing horses for top-level competition, building trust with them in day-to-day care, and seeing them perform at their best. I particularly enjoy working in busy environments where attention to detail and calm under pressure are essential.
- What I’d like to improve: I would like to continue developing my riding at a higher competitive level and broaden my knowledge of international competition management and horse fitness programmes.
- Why employers should consider me: I bring proven experience at the highest levels of equestrian sport, both as a groom and a rider. My commitment, reliability, and passion for horses mean I can be trusted to maintain high standards of horse care and turnout. I am adaptable, eager to learn, and motivated to contribute to the success of any team or yard I join.
- I also spent 8 years working part time in hospitality alongside working with horses which shows my work ethic and commitment.
At my current job I live onsite with my partner and my dog where I have a stable onsite for my own horse.
My partner is also hands on with any handyman jobs that need doing over weekends such as emptying Muckheaps, harrowing and general maintenance.
