Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
- During my 13 years in the equine industry, I have worked at multiple different yards, including riding schools, livery yards, stud farms, and family yards. At all these facilities, I have learnt valuable skills that I will carry with me to all future equestrian employment, such as management, teamwork, lone working, horse care, land management, maintenance tasks and more, to be outlined throughout my profile and in my CV.
- I would ideally be working in a place where I could ride, train, and look after horses, as this is what I want to focus on going forward.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
- I will happily work alone, but I really value working as part of a team. Recently, I have worked with young horses (yearlings to 4 year olds) in the form of training and riding. I also was involved with the stud operations at this facility, so I have experience with handling stallions, broodmares, and youngstock.
- My past equine experience mostly involves equine management in the form of small family yards, riding school and livery businesses. Working at a variety of different yards, all with different management practises, has allowed me to gain in depth knowledge of the equine industry and its inner workings. Being able to contrast and compare between equestrian businesses across the globe can be utilised to help create the most well rounded equine practise, at which equine welfare is the centre.
- My skills acquired outside of the equine industry involve, management of personnel and businesses, social media skills, lone working, general animal handling, people skills and teaching children.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I love seeing the connection between horse and owner, and how magical it can be. I myself love to build relationships with horses, work with them, and see them improve in whatever form that may take, and I love to witness it with other people.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would like to improve my practical skills, so that I can continue to work with horses for years to come. I also want an opportunity to apply my theoretical skills that I learnt from university and my own wider reading/research to practical horse management and care. This is why I am searching for employment in the equine industry, so I can form a close relationship with a group of horses and people, and have the opportunity to cement myself in the equestrian world.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
My 13 years of practical experience within the equine industry, coupled with my first class degree in Equine Science and Business, makes me a valuable asset to any equestrian establishment. I am a versatile and hardworking worker thats puts my all into any task. I adore working with horses, which translates into my management and training practises. I want every horse, owner and establishment to succeed at it is an industry I care about deeply and want to preserve.
