Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have owned my own horse for 5 years I have completed my BHS silver awards (stage 1). My most recent employment was an equine yard manager. I worked my way up from a yard groom to yard manger. Part of this I travelled to the sunshine tour with my rider. Handling a range of horses from stallions to top showjumpers.

Experience

2025-2025 Barista/waiter •  Farmers Fayre

2025-2025 Yard Manager •  McAshwey stud

I began my career as a Yard Groom and gradually progressed to the position of Yard Manager, overseeing the care of 40 horses. In this role, I was responsible for coordinating the farrier, veterinary care, physiotherapy, chiropractic treatments, and feed orders. I effectively communicated with external specialists to ensure each horse followed a routine tailored to their specific workload at any given time. This required collaborating with various professionals to develop customized exercise plans for each horse.

During my time as a groom, I also had the opportunity to participate in the Sunshine Tour, where I was responsible for preparing six horses for competition. This included grooming, assisting in the warm-up, and ensuring the horses were properly turned out for the rider. On a daily basis, my duties included mucking out, feeding, riding, and maintaining a tidy yard. A responsibility in my role was moving hay bales to the horses in the field, which involved operating a front loader to transport round bales and square heston bales.

2021-2025 Sales assistant •  Townfields Saddlers LTD

2021-2024 Livery

I regularly look after other horses on the yard, offering livery cover during holidays etc.

2018-2020 Stable hand • Moor Farm stables

Whilst helping at the riding school I was expected to make sure horses were presentable and ready for their set lesson times. Whilst the horses were in lesson I mucked out and made sure they had free hay and water to come back from the lesson to. This was crucial for the benefit of the horse’s welfare.
