Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I studied a 3 years Diploma in Equine Science from Tshwane University of Technology. During my work integrated learning I got to work at one of the biggest stable yards in Gauteng, where I did my practicals. My responsibilities were:

1. To make sure I feed horses daily

2. Allocate horse to paddocks

3. Administration of medications on daily basis

4. Lunge horses, train them and/or take them out for walks

5. Attending to medical tasks (washing of wounds and assisting the local vet)

6. Stable and paddock checking before knock off time

7. Helping out during shows or riding lessons

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I honestly enjoy working in the medical side of the equestrian industry. Attending to medical stuff like wound cleaning and dressing, giving out meds, helping the Vet. I’m also good in management of the stable and I can work either in a team or individually

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

Treating them when sick and/or injured, having to see a wound slowly healing. Lunging or training them.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

Yes

I would like to give riding another chance and also acquire the equine instruction skill

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I believe am a good candidate because of the love and passion I have in working with horses, i have the understanding of their behavior and psychology and am also open to learning more.I have worked with them that I’ve learned to also control my emotions around them. I have them at the best interest of my heart.
