Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I am a motivated and competent rider and Equine muscular-skeletal practitioner, trained in South Africa. Prior to my training at BSET Academy, I was foremost a work and competition rider in the disciplines of Eventing, Show jumping and Dressage. Throughout this time my interest to develop myself into a professional in the industry has always been a great motivator , with this I have pushed to not only improve myself as a rider but to put as much as possible behind my name ,as to put me in good stead for a life in the industry. After my time as assistant manager at a rehabilitation yard in South Africa, I decided to take myself overseas to experience the highest level of Equine sport and to study the competition horse, in multiple different disciplines. In my time throughout Europe I have used every opportunity to hone my skills as a rider, improve my management skills and develop my eye as a practitioner. I believe through the experience I have gained as a rider and groom , I would be able to develop into an invaluable part of a team. I am a positive and easy going person at heart, however in the same breathe I hold a steadfast dedication in all my work with horses and the industry that I love. I am always willing to learn and improve myself wherever I can and be dynamic in my workplace. I am now looking for a slower pace of life , while still holding the highest standards.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I am a easy going , happy and light hearted individual who works both well within a team of like minded people or alone , happy with sole charge and all the responsibility that comes with it.
I have not been riding much in the last year , mainly ground work and yard work. I am competent in all aspects of handling though I don’t want to be used as the crash test dummy.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
Them…their individualism , learning there quirks and building a bond of unbreakable trust
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
Yes , many things, I believe we learn and improve everyday , also horses always move the goal posts.
My plaiting and clipping are two areas coming from South Africa I would like to improve on.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
This I always find a challenging question, because I hate talking about myself. Though I believe mainly I’m just a really down to earth person with very little hang ups …I will always put the horse first , even to the detriment of my work position … I was put on this earth , I believe to improve the lives of these beautiful animals.
