Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have been around horses my entire life, owning, riding and competing my own horses from a very young age. As soon as i was old enough i began working on professional competition and livery yards, gaining valuable hands on experiences in a fast paced high stand environments.

I have experience in breaking, backing, handling and riding young horses, including sharp competition types and am confident in managing their education, fitness and day to day care. I have ridden a wide verity of young and inexperienced horses, developing them with patience, consistency and correct flatwork while maintaining their confidence both in my own and those belonging to owners. Handling stallions is also not a problem for me, i find that a thrive with horses that need more understudying than your average horse. I personally produced all of my own horses and have competed consistently up to 1m10 with strong ambition to progress further.

I am confident in carrying out all general yard duties some of those include clipping, mane pulling, bandaging, lunging and long lining.

I have extensive experience working on large yards with 20+ horses where i was responsible for all aspects of daily yard work; Riding, mucking out, feeding, turn out and bring in, rug changes, grooming, tacking up, washing off and overall having a clean and organised yard. Working at this level has made me highly efficient, reliable and able to manage my time effectively while maintaining high standards of care even under pressure.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

My strongest skills are handling and ridding young horses, i am patient, calm and comfortable working with inexperienced and developing horses. I’m a good listener and team player but always happy and effective working on my own is required.

I really enjoy preparing horses for shows and have extensive experience bathing, grooming and keeping horses turned out to a high standards.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I believe that working with horses is really rewarding wether that be helping their education or being part of the ground team that helps owners and their horses grow as a team. I take great pride in being apart of the bigger picture putting in the long days and late nights are really what makes a horse and the rewards you gain in the end weather that be a red rosette, a horses trust, watching everyone come together on a show day, or seeing the results of consistent hard work are what make it all worth it to me.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

My platting skills are unfortunately my biggest weakness. its never been something I’ve had to do.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

Employers should consider me because i am hardworking, reliable and genuinely passionate about producing horses to the best of my ability.

I take pride in high standards of care, turnout and always put the horses well-being above all else.  i work well as part of a team but i am equally as capable of working independently and using my own initiative. i understand the demands of yard life, including early mornings, long days and responsibility. I approach my work with a positive professional attitude with a willingness to learn.
