Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job, please use this space to describe your experience, skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I spent three years at the West Australian College of Agriculture, Denmark, where I completed a cert 2 in horse care and Agriculture. Both during school and post i have owned my own horses and cared for others, including professional show horses and dressage mounts for a study and training facility in the South West of Western Australia. My riding experience has primarily been in western and stock work, mustering and working with cattle. I also did some dressage training and worked with green horses, but I was never in competition.
I am very passionate about horses and work really hard. In the past year, I have been working with a single young rider and helping them gain more confidence with her riding and general ability with horses, to the point where she has purchased her second horse and is beginning her education in western riding and some dressage.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills, etc
I am great at working solo or in a team.
I am confident working with green or young horses, but have never had any exposure to working with stallions.
I am a pretty good exercise rider of show horses and am very good with basic medical treatment of horses.
I am a very good machinery operator, mowers, tractors, quads, side by sides, loaders, excavators, trucks and any type of other vehicle.
Property maintenance and yard care, dragging arenas, mowing lawns and fence lines, operating any spraying equipment, repairing and building fences, whether wire or timber, shed work, and driveway maintenance.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
The fact that two days are very rarely the same.
The feeling of success when things go right, when you have done your part to keep an operation running smoothly, or your rider and horse have completed an event.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
My riding, I would like to do more dressage riding and more riding of show horses.
My show preparation abilities. Including plating, trimming, and caring for horses at competitions.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I am a very hard worker, I will always strive to improve at my job and am happy to put as much time in as is needed.
I am not offended when receiving criticism, but i refelect on it and work out how and where I can do better.
If you want someone with discipline and a very good work ethic, then I will be a very good employee.
