Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have owned and ridden horses since I was 10 years old, and have cared for 4 horses at home for the last 7 years. I started eventing lightly as a teenager before finding a passion for dressage. I have ridden my own horses up to medium level and have experience riding various horse types, especially during my time in Botswana where I rode over 50 horses. I train frequently with top coaches in my region, and am very committed to continuing my development of skills included in grooming and riding at a high standard. I hold my Pony Club B Test (level 2 diploma in horse care, management and riding), was a part of the Youth Home Nations BD team (2024), and am a Trainee judge (2023-present). I am a dedicated, determined perfectionist when it comes to horses and would be a hardworking and passionate addition to your yard. It has been noted that I maintain a positive and optimistic attitude, helping to support and lift up a team.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I have been happy working both within a team and on my own. I have skills to clip, plait and turn out, as I currently do for my own horses and shows. I lunge and long line regularly, holding my pony club lunge test. I am a confident, correct rider and am happy to both jump and school on the flat. I have worked with colts and young horses in the past. As part of my job in 2021 I handled newborn foals to 4 year olds and helped with lunging as one was backed, and in Botswana I handled and rode a young colt, however I would not be confident to manage very young stock on my own without some more experience.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I have found great pleasure in working with and riding horses, particularly schooling and being able to improve a horses feel and way of going. I particularly enjoy riding but also care deeply about their welfare and making sure they are as happy and comfortable in themselves as they can be.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

Generally, to gain more experience within the industry. I would love the opportunity to train at a high level as much as I can, and learn more skills to school younger horses. I would also like to improve my show grooming skills and general horsemanship. I believe so much comes from working on a yard full time and am fully committed to gaining as much experience with horses as I can, both as a rider and groom, getting really stuck in.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I am able to work hard and be a great team player, maintaining a positive and uplifting attitude. I am also very determined and feel I have a solid base of training to build upon. Most importantly, I am really passionate about horses and the dressage industry and would love any opportunity for me to contribute to your yard and gain experience
