Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

Having grown up with horses staying on our property, I developed an early understanding of horse behaviour and care, which I built on through my professional work in cattle stations and farms. However my equine experience comes primarily from working horses on a cattle station in Australia, where I rode almost daily for mustering and stock work, often for long hours in demanding and remote conditions. This developed my confidence handling horses in practical, working environments and working closely as part of a team. While I have not worked in competition or high-end equestrian yards, I am a particularly quick and capable learner, physically fit, and highly adaptable. Alongside my horse experience, I bring strong non-equine skills including maintenance, groundskeeping, irrigation, fencing, and general farm and estate work, and I am keen to further develop my equine and yard skills in a professional UK setting.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I am particularly good at working both independently and as part of a team, especially in rural and remote environments. I am reliable, physically fit, and comfortable working long hours when required. I have strong experience riding and handling horses in a working farm environment, particularly during cattle mustering. I also bring strong non-equine skills including general maintenance, groundskeeping, irrigation, fencing, labouring, and site upkeep. I am a quick learner, adaptable, and confident taking on new tasks and responsibilities. While I have experience operating heavy machinery and using trailers on farms,  I do not currently hold formal tickets/licenses for these. I am willing to obtain the necessary qualifications if required for the role.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

Horses quickly became my favourite animal to work with. I particularly enjoy that each horse has its own personality and that good horsemanship is about partnership — knowing when to let the horse do what it understands naturally and when to take the lead. I admire their intelligence and awareness, as well as their strength and presence, and I find working with horses both rewarding and grounding.

I am always looking to improve in all aspects of life, and in this field I am keen to continue developing my knowledge and experience with horses. I would like to build a long-term career working with horses and would value the opportunity to learn more advanced skills, particularly the full process of starting and breaking in young horses in a professional environment.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I offer a strong work ethic, proven reliability, and experience working long hours in demanding rural environments. I am physically fit, adaptable, and a quick learner who takes pride in doing jobs properly. I bring practical horse experience from working cattle stations, alongside strong non-equine skills such as maintenance, groundskeeping, and general estate work. I am committed to building a long-term career in this field and would be a dependable and motivated addition to any yard or farm team.
