- Future Requirements
- • What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I would like to develop my riding skills as I have not had much experience in the ring. I have confidently jumped up to 1.20 at home and would like to get the opportunity to compete however this is not a necessity.
I’m particularly keen to broaden my knowledge of horse care at a management level — including feeding programs, turnout routines, fitness scheduling, and monitoring health and behaviour — rather than just carrying out tasks. I enjoy being part of a team but also taking initiative. I am very good with people delegating and assisting and I’d like a position where I can support staff coordination, maintain high standards of care, and help create a positive environment for owners, riders, and horses.
• Do you need accommodation?
depending on location
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
German shepherd 7years old neutered female
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
No
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
Not as of yet
Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have worked with horses in both high-performance competition environments and private ownership. I have some some freelance work in livery yards and riding schools. I continue to do this when required. I currently work in an office based job however I am looking to transfer back into the equine world
Most notably, I worked as a riding groom for 5 years in a showjumping yard. We went to numerous away shows around Ireland and Europe. We competed at the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) Championships in Saint-Tropez and London. In this role, I was responsible for the day-to-day care and competition preparation of elite sport horses in an international setting. My duties included tacking up, cooling down, grooming to competition standard, handling horses in busy show environments, and supporting riders to ensure horses were prepared physically and mentally to perform.
A key part of this role was facilitating travel and stopovers, where horse welfare and safety were the top priority. I assisted in managing horses during transit, ensuring they were hydrated, settled, and stress levels were minimized . I monitored for signs of fatigue, dehydration, or discomfort and helped maintain feeding, rest, and care routines despite the demands of travel. One of the horses hasn’t travelled before so it was important to ensure she was okay. This required strong attention to detail, calm handling skills, and the ability to act quickly.
I began riding at a young age and developed a strong foundation in horse care and stable management early on. From the age of 15 to 20, I worked in a showjumping yard, where I gained hands-on experience with fit competition horses and the demands of a busy, performance-focused environment. During this time, I was involved in daily yard duties including mucking out, grooming, tacking up, turning out, feeding, and general horse care, as well as assisting with competition preparation and maintaining high turnout standards.
After this, I took time to focus on college and broadening my professional experience, but I am now looking to return fully to the equestrian industry, bringing with me a more mature, responsible, and organised approach developed through my work outside of the yard. I have worked in admin and various coffee shop/ restaurants so my people skills and administration skills would definitely be a benefit to any yard.
I also worked in a management role at a horse holiday retreat in Bosnia as you will see on my CV. This position combined horse care with client-facing responsibilities, requiring strong organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
I helped oversee daily tasks , ensured horses were cared for to a high standard, and supported guests to have safe and enjoyable riding experiences. This role strengthened my ability to balance horse welfare with people management and ensure a safe and (kind of stress free environment)
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I’m good at getting on with things on my own but also working well as part of a team, and I’m happy taking responsibility to keep yard routines running properly. I take pride in turning horses out to a high standard and I’m confident with plaiting and general competition prep. I’m used to handling fit, sharp competition horses and staying calm in busy environments, especially from my show experience. I enjoy being under pressure and challenging myself. I’m very aware of horse welfare and good at noticing small changes in behaviour or condition. I’m organised, reliable, and used to physical work, and I try to keep a calm, positive attitude around the yard
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I enjoy spending time surrounded by horses they are a joy to work with. Every one has such a different personality and I love getting to know how they tick and what works best for them to preform the best they can.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would like you develop my management skills and riding skills. I am happy to be a home rider/ groom and progress from there. I do think I would thrive in an environment where there is room to grow and progress
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
i am extremely hard working and dedicated to my work. I am disciplined and enjoy motivating others to preform their best under pressure. The thought of being busy everyday and ensuring a safe and happy environment for the horses and staff is a highly priority to me.
