Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have experience in managing the day to day running of the stables, working alongside other employed staff and supervising of volunteers, making sure the horses and other animals are well looked after and have adequate food and water, mucking out of stables, turnout and treating any minor field injuries. I am able to assist vets, dentists and farriers when they are onsite, report accidents and injuries, welcome people onto the yard and deal with deliveries. I am able to work unsupervised and independently for a number of hours, work horses independently, and use my initiative on what I need to do without instruction.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
One of my key skills is that I am a very versatile worker I work well in a team or can put my head down and work alone happily. I have handled stallions and young stock however I would like to gain more experience. I have ridden and handled a wide range of horses, I have loaned multiple horses, taken them out to their first shows and at my time at Hadlow college I had experience with a stable of 60 horses and rode all that could be ridden ranging from higher performance sports horses to younger inexperienced horses. I can confidently lunge, long rein, two rein lunge a range of horses independently and ensuring they are working correctly.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I enjoy the routine, working in a team of people that all have the same love and commitment to the animals and seeing yourself and a horse progress in your partnership.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would like to improve my riding, trimming and turnout skills.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I am young, independent and hardworking young person, that has a wide range of skills. I would love to learn and gain more knowledge in order to throw myself into working in the industry and climb the levels.
