Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have worked in a variety of jobs from riding schools to competition livery yards to office jobs, I thoroughly enjoyed each aspect but  I am now wanting to move to a friendly, busy but quiet yard.

I am able to perform all basic tasks to a high standard and ensure the care and safety of the horses is my main priority.

I have learnt to plait and clip, however this is something that I would like to improve and learn more about.

I have owned 2 horses of my own, sadly my first passed due to sycamore poisoning, he was a youngster who was rescued from a driving yard at the age of 1.5. I spent my time helping him relax and learn that he could trust me, before he passed away we were doing a lot of groundwork and rehabilitation.

My second horse was an ex-race horse who came off the track 2 years before I bought him. He taught me that calmness and patience is important.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

  • I am calm and patient when handling horses of any type or age.

  • I have strong observation skill to identify changes in behaviour, health, or soundness.

  • I am reliable and consistent, I am punctual and definitely routine-oriented.

  • I am physically healthy with a strong work ethic even in the pouring rain!

  • I have a good focus of safety awareness and a strong knowledge of proper horse handling and yard protocols.

  • I am good at communication and work well alone or with others.

  • I have a good willingness to learn or improve skills and take direction from experienced staff.

  • I am able to help and give direction to others in a clear way.
  • I have a respectful, ethical approach to animal care and welfare.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

Being around horses makes me happy and feel safe. They are such beautiful creatures and have always been my clearing in a bad patch. I enjoy the physical side of it too, I have tried an office job and could not sit still!

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would like to improve my clipping, plaiting and show turn out as this is something I did not do a lot on in previous jobs.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

Employers should consider me because I am a reliable, calm, and genuinely committed to the care and welfare of horses. I take direction well, show up consistently, and handle  demanding work no matter the weather. I am observant, willing to learn, and focused on doing tasks correctly rather than rushing or cutting corners. I bring a glass full work ethic and a respectful approach that supports both the horses and the anyone i am working with.
