Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have ridden since the age of 4 and have been actively working with horses for 13 years. I have worked on eventing yards, hunt yards, sport horse studs and since 2019 I have focused more working with thoroughbreds. I am confident handling yearlings, foals, mares and fit racehorses that have just come out of training.

I am confident with

  • mucking out to high standards
  • turning out/bringing in horses from fields
  • handling horses of all ages
  • handling colts and fillies
  • assisting with running a yearling prep
  • assessing horses health and needs

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

  • I can work alone when needed and I am also a good team player,
  • Confident handling colts and fillies,
  • confident handling yearlings, foals, difficult horses, fit sport horses and racehorses,
  • I was assistant yearling manager at a stud farm in australia so I am confident taking a leadership role if or when I need to,
  • confident to take a leadership role at the sales and organise parades and do cards for names,
  • turning out horses at sales to a high standard,
  • have foaled mares down on my own and as part of a team,
  • assisted with breaking in horses (only from the ground from now on, though)
  • worked spellers and pre-training horses up gallops,
  • confident administering IV and IM injections,
  • confident with bandaging both for work and injuires

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I enjoy seeing the progression of young horses and watching them grow and learn. I like forming bonds with horses and learning what each individual horse needs to progress.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would like to gain more knowledge and understanding of TB pedigrees and understand matings and the reasons why stallions suit certain mares.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I am a highly motivated worker and a fast learner. Working in many different yards and for many different people I have learnt to adapt quickly to please and impress my employers and or clients. I have a passion for horses, especially thoroughrbreds and working the TB sales.
