Experience with Horses
I have over 15 years of experience working with horses and have developed a strong level of competence in horse care, handling and riding. I have a level 3 diploma in animal management and biology and over the years I have worked with a variety of horses, gaining experience in daily yard duties, stable management, exercising horses and maintaining high standards of welfare.
I also spent time in South Africa where I went specifically to train and develop my riding. During this period I was riding and working 3–4 horses a day, which helped build my fitness, adaptability and ability to handle different types of horses. This experience significantly strengthened my riding skills and overall confidence with horses.
Through my years in the equine industry I have developed a strong work ethic, good horse management skills and the ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I am particularly good at working independently and managing my time efficiently around the yard. I am confident handling horses in a range of situations and maintaining high standards of care and safety.
I am skilled at clipping and preparing horses, ensuring they are comfortable and well presented. I am also confident riding a variety of horses and adapting to different temperaments and training needs.
I take pride in the turnout of horses and always aim to present them to a high standard. I am organised, reliable and able to work alone when required while still maintaining a professional standard of horse care and yard management.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
What I enjoy most about working with horses is the connection you build with them and seeing their progress over time. I find it very rewarding to work closely every day, understanding their individual personalities and helping them develop through consistent care, exercise and training.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would love to develop my veterinary skills as having experience working alongside vets was great as an introduction and I would love for this to continue.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
Employers should seek me because I bring over 15 years of experience working with horses and a strong understanding of horse care, riding and yard management. I am reliable, hardworking and able to work both independently and as part of a team while maintaining high standards of horse welfare.
I have experience riding multiple horses daily and adapting to different temperaments and training needs. My time training in South Africa, where I rode 3–4 horses a day, helped develop my riding ability, fitness, and confidence with a variety of horses.
I also take pride in the presentation and turnout of horses and am skilled in such. I am committed to working to a high standard and being someone employers can depend on to keep the yard running smoothly and ensure the horses are well cared for.
