Future Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I would like to expand my experience in different disciplines and try to find a better work/life balance which allows me to fulfil all of my responsibilities to an exceptional standard but as part of a proper team so I can also enjoy/compete my own horse too. Another big draw for me would be to obtain my HGV license.
• Do you need accommodation?
No
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
I have one event horse, mare. Very sensible and easy, a pleasure to have around. I have 2 spaniel bitches, mother and daughter. None of these girls HAVE to be part of my working life but I feel I can be more invested in my job if they are
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
No
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
No
Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have successfully run a big livery yard and unaffiliated competition centre 2017-2026. I worked on a NH Racing yard, racing, riding out and keeping the yard ticking over September 2016-Feb 2017. I managed a rehab and competition yard April 2013-September 2016 which entailed breakers, rehab, stallions, eventers, showjumpers and dressage horses. I had experience as a working pupil for a 5* event rider August 2011 – March 2013 and prior to that was a senior groom/junior instructor at a riding school.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I can clip, plait, pull, trim, work alone, work as a team, organise my own time, organise others, prioritise tasks, work efficiently, turnout for competition, exercise, drive a 7.5t but I’d’ say my main skill is I can also turn up every day!
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
Watching them progress through their sport horse careers and doing all I can to provide them the best chance at doing that successfully
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I don’t think there is anything I couldn’t be better at, I am always trying to improve both personally and professionally!
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I’m 32, I’ve been in the industry a long time now, I’ve seen most things and it takes quite a lot to really wobble me. I work well under pressure and in a crisis, I’m reliable and I think I’m easy to get along with. I’m realistic about what the job entails and pretty upbeat and enthusiastic although I might have a little grumble when we’re on day 17,839 of non-stop rain, the electric fencing won’t stand up in the mud and the washing machine can’t work any faster but then the little gangly 4yr old wobbles round its first British Novice or BE80 and you remember exactly what we’re all doing it for!
