My name is Eva Heyward, based in Plymouth, Devon. I am a dedicated and energetic individual who adores horses and all animals. I have a background in law, where I excelled professionally, but I realised my true passion lies in working with animals, particularly horses. I am now training to become a veterinary nurse with a focus on equine care. In addition to my professional experience, I am fit, reliable, hold a full driving licence, and am potentially able to tow if required. Outside of work, I enjoy being outdoors, keeping active, and spending time with horses, whether grooming, riding, or caring for them.

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

To work professionally with horses, turning my passion into a career. I love being around horses every day and am seeking a role where I can contribute to their care, training, and wellbeing, while learning new skills and gaining professional experience in a busy, high-standard yard and the quieter ones. This role will also support my training to become a veterinary nurse, allowing me to develop practical animal care skills alongside my studies.

• Do you need accommodation?

No – I do not require accommodation.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

N/A

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

No ongoing commitments that would affect full-time work.

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

July 2026 (two weeks)

Experience with Horses

I have hands-on experience caring for and working with several loan horses that I share, providing daily grooming, feeding, turnout, and light schooling. I have developed a deep understanding of horse behaviour, health, and routine care, and I am comfortable handling young or nervous horses as well as more experienced ones. I am eager to take this passion and experience into a professional role, providing excellent care and support for horses in a yard or competition setting.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

  • Daily horse care: grooming, feeding, mucking out, turnout

  • Handling and working with a range of horses, including young, nervous, or loan horses

  • Basic riding and schooling when required

  • Plaiting, clipping, and show preparation

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team

  • Strong organisation, attention to detail, and communication

  • Passionate about horses and committed to their wellbeing at all times

  • Developing veterinary knowledge through ongoing veterinary nurse training

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I love spending time with horses and building strong bonds through care and handling. Seeing them happy, healthy, and performing at their best is extremely rewarding. I enjoy every aspect of horse care, from grooming and feeding to turnout and riding.

  • Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I want to further develop my professional skills, including advanced grooming, show preparation, handling competition horses, and veterinary-related care – I also wish to own my own horses one day and be a responsible owner.

  • Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I bring genuine passion and hands-on experience with horses, combined with a professional attitude, reliability, and a strong willingness to learn. My work with loan horses has given me practical skills and a love for the work, and my veterinary nurse training complements this by adding medical knowledge that can benefit the horses I care for. I am hardworking, adaptable, and committed to providing excellent care and attention to every horse I work with.
