Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have extensive hands-on experience working with a wide range of horses across riding schools, competition yards, and international environments. My background includes coaching riders of all abilities, from beginners to advanced, as well as training and developing young horses from backing through to becoming safe and reliable riding and trail horses.

I am confident handling all types of horses, including foals, stallions, competition horses, and those with complex needs. My experience covers all aspects of horse care and yard management, including grooming to a high standard, tack fitting, feeding regimes, wound care, field management, and maintaining a safe, clean, and well-organised yard.

I have experience working on a professional show jumping yard, supporting the care and management of competition horses and young prospects. My responsibilities included maintaining high standards of turnout, assisting with daily routines, using specialist equipment such as treadmills and solariums, and ensuring the overall smooth running and security of the yard.

I have worked in high-pressure, fast-paced environments where safety, efficiency, and attention to detail are critical. My roles have included leading teams, managing daily yard routines, and ensuring excellent care standards are consistently met.

Internationally, I have worked as a trail guide, coach, and trainer, independently leading groups on varied and challenging terrain, including full-day and night rides. I am experienced in delivering high-quality client experiences, working with tourists, and adapting to challenges such as extreme weather and language barriers.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

My key skills include successfully working with and training young horses, developing them to a competitive standard. I have also produced my own horses to competition level, demonstrating consistency, patience, and a strong understanding of progression in training.

In addition, I have international experience, having worked in Greece where I focused on producing horses that were safe, reliable, and suitable for trail riding. This has strengthened my adaptability and ability to manage horses in different environments.

I have experience working in a fast-paced show jumping yard, where I was involved in both the day-to-day management and the competition of horses. Furthermore, I have worked with horses in a variety of climates, enhancing my versatility and understanding of their care and performance under different conditions.

I work effectively both independently and as part of a team. I am hardworking, reliable, and a strong team player, consistently contributing to a positive and productive environment. I adapt quickly to new situations and am confident in thinking on my feet when challenges arise. I thrive in busy settings and am not afraid of hard work, always approaching tasks with a proactive and committed attitude.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I most enjoy being around horses and continuously learning from them. I appreciate their natural temperament and the individuality of each horse’s character. Working with horses is incredibly rewarding, both in terms of personal development and the connection built through trust and understanding.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

There is always room for improvement but nothing springs to mind

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

Employers should choose me because I bring a genuine passion for working with horses, combined with a strong willingness to learn and develop my skills further. I have a deep appreciation for each horse’s individual character and needs, which allows me to handle them with patience, care, and understanding.

I am reliable, hardworking, and take pride in maintaining high standards in both horse care and yard duties. I work well as part of a team but am equally confident working independently and taking initiative when required. My positive attitude and commitment to doing tasks thoroughly make me a valuable addition to any yard.

Above all, I am dedicated to ensuring the welfare of the horses and contributing to a professional, efficient, and supportive working environment.
