Experience with Horses
I have been around ponies, horses and other animals from an early age, have looked after various animals and ridden all sorts of ponies and horses – from Shetlands to Haflingers to Warmbloods, Pure- and Thoroughbreds. My handling and riding skills are a mixture of classical education and self-taught, with experience working on yards/farms in Germany, the US and the UK.
I have experience in and practice natural horsemanship, liberty, classical ground&ridden work, and a wide variety of exercises that help horses use their body in a healthy way and train their brains. My own horse is a 17y old PRE gelding, who I have been rehabilitating and am re-training.
Key Skills
Exercising, rehabilitating and training horses, classical and natural horsemanship; keeping horses balanced and healthy – physically and mentally.
I am competent in all usual aspects of yard work and horse care, can work alone and am self-sufficient, but am also happy working with a good team; I have good observational/cognitive skills, like to learn and also pass on my knowledge to others. I have experience in looking after various kinds of animals and properties; I can organize, speak (and write) two languages fluently (German and English) and have a rudimentary grasp of a few others; I am fit, healthy, disciplined and focused.
Equine Skills: Ground-and in-hand work, Lunging, Longreining, Liberty/Horsemanship, Flatwork, Gymnastics, Hacking etc..
Grooming, Plaiting, Clipping, Equine and human 1st aid, Supervisory Skills; open-stable, track livery, nutrition and land management knowledge; some experience in breaking and handling stallions/youngsters.
Non-Equine Skills Architecture&Design, Computer Skills, Carpentry, Metalwork, Health&Nutrition, Retail – please enquire
Strengths and Weaknesses
What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
Working together as partners, making positive progress and having an active, healthy lifestyle.
Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I am always learning; amongst other things I’m interested in sustainable equine- and land management and bio-mechanics.
I would like to extend my horse training- and re-training experience and am currently looking into options to gain qualification.
Happy to attend occasional shows/competitions etc.
Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
That depends on what they’re looking for – I believe there is a perfect fit for everybody.
I know I’m very versatile, empathic and have good observational skills, so would be interested to be involved in the training/re-training or rehabilitation of horses. I’m very conscientious, a kind and agile rider with a light hand, and a very responsible person with a willing and competitive attitude to learn. Also, I’m flexible regarding location.
Requirements
What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
Would like to keep training my and other horses; a good working environment where I can fully apply my existing skills and keep learning would be great.
Do you need accommodation?
Yes, if location is further than an hour away from current home in Nottingham.
Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
I’d like my boy to have the company of other horses/animals and year-round turnout.
Do you have any ongoing commitments?
Not really; I have a partner, but we’re geographically flexible
Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
No
