Experience with Horses
I have ridden and loaned horses from a young age, and been formally employed in the equine sector for 6.5 years, giving me strong practical handling skills and a deep understanding of equine behaviour. In July 2025 I graduated with a First Class BSc (Hons) in Equine Science, which equipped me with detailed knowledge of equine nutrition, health & welfare and promoting optimal performance in equestrian sports. I have worked sole charge on a show jumping yard, handling young, fit competition horses including stallions, helped to break and school youngsters, and worked on a rescue sanctuary where I managed a herd of 8 horses of all ages with various health conditions.
Key Skills
I am confident handling horses of all ages, temperaments, and fitness levels, including stallions and young stock, and have a strong understanding of equine behaviour and welfare. My academic background provides a solid foundation in equine nutrition, anatomy, physiology, and performance management. I am experienced working independently and in sole charge, with responsibilities including feeding, exercising, administering first aid and medication, and acting as a line of communication between owners and their vets, physios and farriers. I work efficiently, communicate clearly with colleagues and owners, and consistently prioritise animal welfare through evidence-based, compassionate care. I also have work experience in hospitality management, which has strengthened my leadership, organisation, and people skills, which I bring to client-facing environments.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I enjoy the combination of being outdoors, staying active, and working within a routine that still offers plenty of variety.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I’d like to gain more hands-on experience in implementing structured recovery and rehabilitation programmes, particularly for horses recovering from injury or surgery.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I bring a strong balance of academic knowledge and practical experience, alongside a genuine passion for equine welfare. I’m reliable, observant, and confident working with a wide range of horses, including those with complex needs. I work efficiently, communicate well, and take pride in maintaining high standards of care. My background also includes management and customer-facing roles, meaning I can contribute positively to both the day-to-day running of the yard and the wider team environment.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
Further experience & I’d be very open to doing some show grooming, and BHS coaching qualifications if appropriate for the role.
• Do you need accommodation?
No, but I would be open to working further from home if accommodation was offered.
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
No
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
I have a retired Welsh Pony on loan.
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
None at present
