- Experience with Horses
I have been working with horses on and off since I was 14. I have worked in many areas of the equine industry, my favourite being stud work, specifically foaling.
I have been an international show groom in Belgium for a couple of show jumpers, I accompanied them all over Europe to different show jumping tours. I have been an equine midwife and stud hand, learning all of the aspects of equine reproduction. I started learning the semen freezing process whilst working on an Arabian stud in Belgium. I would love to learn more about this process and equine reproduction in general.
I have also been an event Groom to a lovely family with children, I worked for them for many years caring for both children and horses to a very high standard. I worked in a riding stables as a charity organiser for RDA pupils and also helped to take them for lessons and was frequently left in charge to manage the facility.
I can also drive a 3.5 tonne lorry.
Key Skills
I have worked with broodmares and foals, handling stallions, and been on foal watch. I have also started to learn the semen freezing process and would love to learn more about AI.
I was the bar manager of a Japanese restaurant leading a team of staff, and have been left in sole charge of yards and riding schools before. I have also been acting head girl whilst senior staff were away.
From a young age I was a competition groom for a family who had very high standards of turnout.
I have worked with nervous or abused horses. I’m a competent exercise rider, I love to show jump and compete. I also enjoy trekking, hunting, and fun rides. I can plait, pull manes and tails, and turn out to a high standard for competitions.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• I love working with horses because they are so trusting and kind, I love it when you make a bond with a horse that lasts forever.
• I suffered from a bad riding accident, so I am no longer fit enough to work in the racing industry.
• I am hard working, kind, keen to learn, and always put the horses and work first. I’m also very easy to get along with.
Requirements
• I’d like to learn more about AI in particular the collecting and freezing process.
• I would like to live in.
• I have a small well behaved standard sized Dachshund who has grown up around horses. She is also perfect for catching rats and mice, is great with other dogs, cats and people.
