Experience with Horses
In 2023, I returned from working with horses in Germany, at the Lewitz stud, for Paul Schockemohle. I’ve learnt so much to do with young horses and breaking in, including mucking out to a high standard. I was a rider with a groom and a list of around 10 horses per day to work and ride. It was a very physically demanding job and I was hoping to find something like that over here!
I’m currently in a Trekking role, and have learnt valuable customer facing skills. As much as I’m enjoying my current position, I’m looking forward to getting back into a role that is more horse focused.
I have completed a City & Guilds Level 3 Extended Diploma in Horse Management at Kingston Maurward. References available.
This course has given me a well rounded knowledge of horse care including the following topics:
Behaviour, Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, Stable Management, Feeding, Equitation, Work Experience, Ground Work, Tack and Equipment, Competition, Riding.
During this course, I experienced riding flatwork, show jumping and cross country to a good level. I have little experience competing but I know what is involved and am eager to gain more insight into this area.
I have been riding for 18 years, and am still very passionate about horses!
Key Skills
I am very confident handling and working all types of horses.
I am quite happy to work alone and crack on with a task.
I can also work with others and help keep morale high! I think it is important to keep a happy atmosphere so a good laugh is often required.
I can turn out to a good standard, but I will admit, I need a bit of time to perfect my skills for competition standards.
I am rather keen at organisation and cleaning so sorting out tack rooms is a bit of a “treat”!
Strengths and Weaknesses
• I love getting to know each horse’s character and find horse care very rewarding.
• I would like to improve my turn-out skills and general expanse of knowledge.
• I believe that I am a very keen and enthusiastic individual. I strive to bring a positive vibe to work and will always endeavour to do my best.
– I am also a quick learner and am very eager to expand my knowledge and make new friends!
Requirements
• In my next role I would like to be able to ride at least 4 times per week as I do not own a horse and would like to keep riding.
• I am happy to live in or out, as I do drive. I’m looking to relocate from Wareham, Dorset to an area closer to London.
