Experience with Horses
I have been involved with horses for over 35 years. I have an associates degree in equine science as well as being a BHS Accredited Professional Senior Coach in Complete Horsemanship (BHSII), am a FEI level 1 Coach and BD Trainee Judge. I grew up in the US and worked with equitation, hunters and jumpers. After university I concentrated more on showjumping and competed up to 130. I then changed to dressage and have done mostly that for the past 10 years. I have experience with stallions, mares and foals, young horses, warm bloods, Iberians and retraining of ex racehorses. I have worked previously as a groom, rider, riding instructor, office, competition and yard manager.
Key Skills
I am able to work alone or with others as part of a team. I can plait, clip, lunge with most training aids (i.e. Pessoa, Chambon, Equiband) and generally turn out to a high standard. I am hard working and time efficient.
Strengths and Weaknesses
- What do you most enjoy about working with horses? The horses are what I enjoy most about my career. I enjoy learning from them and doing what I can to make their lives better.
- Is there anything you’d like to improve? While I enjoy the support and banter of a team I do tend to have the attitude that “if you want it done properly, do it yourself”. Which I need to work on and realise it’s ok to accept help.
- Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker? Experience really, I think that I have a well rounded amount of experience in the industry.
Requirements
- Do you need accommodation?Dependant on location, if within Northumberland I have my own home and am willing to travel up to 2 hours round trip.
- Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you? Have a horse to come with.
- Do you have any ongoing commitments? An 13 year old son! Other than that, no.
- Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of? No
