Experience with Horses

I spent my childhood around horses and began working with them as soon as I was able to, working weekends and school holidays on a private livery yard. Upon leaving school I worked at a busy riding school/livery yard as a Trainee Instructor/General Groom, learning effective time management and good communication skills with adults and children. My last role before leaving temporarily to raise a young family was at a polo yard, initially as a Polo School Groom and then as a Polo Groom for one season.

Whilst my children were young I worked as a part time freelance groom on a wide variety of  yards, often having sole charge of private yards. I worked hard to provide clients with confidence and piece of mind when ensuring the care and welfare needs of their horses and ponies were met whilst completing all general yard duties and exercising were completed in a thorough and efficient manner.

I returned to full time employment within the equine industry and currently work at a busy riding school completing daily yard tasks quickly and to a high standard, provide ad hoc teaching cover where required, and strive to provide customers with a welcoming and enjoyable experience.

Key Skills

I pride myself in working both alone and with others, managing my time effectively and completing all tasks that are required to a high standard. I am experienced in all yard duties; including, but not limited to, mucking out, feeding, haying and watering, keeping the yard organised, turning out and bringing in, grooming and exercising/schooling. I am a swift learner and relish learning new skills where possible, and enjoy developing my teaching skills wherever possible. I am passionate about caring for horses and ensuring their wellbeing, treating each one with the care I would if they were my own. I have experience clipping and bandaging in accordance with the polo yards requirements.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses? Working with horses is something that I am truly passionate about. It is all I have ever wanted to do, and I can honestly say that I enjoy all aspects of it – even when its cold and miserable outside!

• Is there anything you’d like to improve? I am an avid learner who takes pride in being able to pick things up quickly where needed, and welcome any opportunity to improve in any area that I can.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker? I am passionate, hardworking, and always have a smile on my face. I care for every horse as if they were my own, and always strive to complete my tasks to the highest standard and in good time.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job? I would love to join a busy yard as a groom, and would be keen to develop my coaching skills further should the opportunity arise. I have a wide range of practical experience but I enjoy learning so would be keen to take on training to further my formal skills if the opportunity arose.
