Experience with Horses

I’ve been around horse’s my whole life, started riding friends ponies from around 4/5 and then started having lessons in a riding school from around 9/10, I’ve ridden anything from your typical stubborn/ cheeky riding school pony, young/green horses to your hot headed show jumpers and hunters, I’m currently in the last few months of my Equine management course at Hartpury College.I’m not afraid of a challenge and consider myself very confident and competent with any type of pony/horse on  and off the ground. I’m interested in eventing and racing however I’ve never really had a real job with horses but that doesn’t really take away from my experience apart from not being used to being at competitions because I haven’t been to one myself since I was about 11 but I’m keen to learn and get into it.

I’d say that I can groom to a high standard, work well with more challenging horses because although I’m patient I also know that there’s a job that needs to be done and will do it, have handled a few stallions and yearlings in my time but never in a professional setting and I do consider myself a good confident rider and I’m not scared to be in charge on horses that are more ‘difficult’ or ‘hot headed’. I’m good at following instructions and will always do things to the best of my ability.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses? Being around them in general as well as seeing them improve with your help wether that be on or off the ground.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

Turn out (plaiting especially forelock and tail).

clipping (have done previously but never without guidance).

people skills as I’m quite shy with people when I first meet them as I do struggle with social anxiety but I don’t let it stop me.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I’m keen and willing to learn new things as well as being passionate about horses and to carry on using the skills I do have as well as improve the things I’m not quite so sure of yet.

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I’d ideally like a job where I can ride and help exercise the horses however it isn’t a deal breaker.

College however I finish on the 24th of june

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
